I noticed my golem does a lot more damage using his fists than he does when I give him a weapon. For example, my golem is level 47, and I gave him a level 45 axe, AVG 27. He started hitting noticeably less hard. As far as I can tell, the NPC I was testing this on had no vulns or resistances to either blunt or slashing damage.
I thought maybe my golem is being treated (insofar as the Guardian Golem edge is concerned) as if it is the same level as I was when I took the edge (low to mid-30's).
Worth taking a look at.

Mobs tend to have better damage without weapons.
