#65, "December 13 - By (multiple) request: Dodge"
|
I've had a few emails/posts asking for specifications about Dodge. Again, this is probably info that many vets already know, but perhaps newer/medium range players did not.
Thanks again to Daevryn, as I asked him if I was forgetting any factors in dodge and he was kind enough to point out a couple things.
Factors for dodge (skills like wilderness familiarity notwithstanding):
1. Skill 2. Current (not max) dexterity 3. Carry Weight
Best you can get:
1. 100% 2. 25 3. 50% Max
Anything over 50% Max is a sliding scale - that is, 51% is almost as good as 50%, 60% is still pretty good, and so on.
Dodge cares some about how well you know the weapon you're dodging, though not as much as parry cares. Some weapons are a little bit easier to dodge than others. I do not have specifics on this, but in general I believe that the larger the weapon, the easier it is to dodge it.
Come back tomorrow for another post! Have something you'd like to see me post about? Email me at twist@carrionfields.com.

What's missing about #3 is just how big a deal it is; just how badly does carrying max weight cripple your dodging? If it's, say, a 20% penalty, then it's okay to occasionally load up on stuff, but if it's like 50%...

It scales non linearly:
Up until you're around 75% carry it's pretty mild. You're losing some dodging but you might have a hard time noticing it.
From there until near 100% carry it gets more severe. I wouldn't recommend going this high if you care about dodging and can help it, but situationally I can see arguments for it.
Past there (carrying more weight than your current STR allows) it gets really bad fast. Losing DEX, point for point, is probably still worse for your dodge generally speaking than losing STR, but it's pretty serious.
Does that help?

When you say "I believe that the larger the weapon, the easier it is to dodge it" are you saying bigger weapons IE Polearms compared to daggers? Or are you talking about weight in particular. IE A 29lb sword is easier to dodge than a 5lb sword...
