Chapter 6

Kira sat in her room staring at the vanity mirror, assessing her own beauty. How she admired
it's beautiful woodwork even as she now studies the dark elf woman now approaching her
third century within it.

She had never been beautiful. Though beauty was what she sought. Not naturally at least and
the dark elf who stares back at her now WAS beautiful, but for no lack of effort in her
fashionable boots, and other ornaments that surpassed what came natural. Though she had
tried to steal some of the beauty out of her subjects, so far all her experiments had been
of no use.

She smiled to herself. But she wasn't completely without her charms, however hard earned.
Kira directed her gaze in the mirror back to the two lieutenants sleeping in her bed. How
thrilled she had been to come across dusty novels of provincials and even provosts sleeping
with their lieutenants in ages past. And to think it wasn't against the law, even if not
the most celebrated literature in the spire library.

And it had its perks. She was still popular among the lieutenants and they came when she
called, even to bring her vanity to a lower floor Gnimos had placed her into shame her.

A magistrate of Galadon AND a lower floor! Provost Gnimos was insufferable, but she respected
his leadership. Too bad it so often was temperamental and never making her life or the work
she sincerely did for the cities any easier.

Kira's mood darkened. Kira Galadriel, the name she took after the legendary Goddess upon
which Galadon was founded, an elf worshiped for her beauty and glory. She would be that. A
dark elf could do what an elf had done and so much more. Galadon would become the hub of
the world again, and all would respect her who brought about it's next age. Maybe they'd
even make a demi-god of her.
She grew distracted and she briefly fantasized her fountain filling the Galadon squares instead
in the ages to come, the first thing the academy children praised and stared up at when they...

Kira slapped her own face. She had not earned the right to fantasize. There was work to be
done first. Her watch was approaching and she must find the tough line of the magical
research her guild required, while earning the praise of the Galadon citizens for her
beauty and devotion. Slowly.. Kira composed herself, put on a smile, and walked into the halls
with her usual, and unnerving for a dark elf, cheerful demeanor.

Chapter 5

Beware my child beyond the city,
The place where the Harvester waits.

His visage is ageless, eyes beyond pity,
The decider of children's fates.

Beyond the circle where the moon is full,
Sits those incredible gates.


From each town does he pull,
Til his moongate is full,
The naughty children the Harvester baits!

So when your tucked into bed,
And dreams of sprigs fill your head,
Shut shudders, and windows, and grates!

For wayward children who run,
Outside the city for fun...
Find the place where the Harvester waits!

Chapter 4

Kira stepped into the city of splendors, Galadon, city of Galadriel not as a
hero of the stories nor to the fanfare of trumpets.

She came up from the sewers.

Smelling, starving, and staggering into the surface world. She crashed into
the closest bar from the Large Intersection. Hoping for water, food,
anything...

Paying no attention to the broken stairs of the decrepit Manse or the cobweb
ridden bar she half fell and collapsed against. She cried out, pleading for
soup or water or anything from the bartender whose back was towards her.

Slowly the bartender turned to look at her. Kira only could feel confusion on
her face staring at the dark-elf one-eyed bartender after she had traveled so
far from those like her and him.

"Does this look like a soup kitchen", he snarled?

Dumbly, Kira nodded... right before a massive backhand knocked her across her
head with brutal force.

"Welcome to Galadon", snickered the bartender over Kiras unconscious
form as he turned back to the task at hand.

Chapter 3

Teth Azeleth is chaos incarnate with a strange set of rules for the rise and
War of Houses. And one of those rules tolerates no room for failure. So with
the failed coup of her House on the higher House, the feeding frenzy on her
own House was... unavoidable and devastating in its brutality.

She staggered through the caverns of the Underdark and patrols to Teth
Azeleth she avoided, less they recognize her as a survivor of all who were
now dead. As she got farther away, she was too pathetic for the patrols to
take notice of, remember, or even care about.

It was the other creatures of the Underdark she needed to worry about. And
worry she did, using her non-martial warrior training to survive. A battle
with a cave lizard ensued and was of epic proportions from her perspective.
Fortunately the nightmares of displacer beasts and ceiling shriekers did not
materialize, though the cavefishers scraping always down the tunnels rarely
let her sleep.

Yet for the first time in her life, away from the chaos of Teth Azeleth, a
discovery was made. It was made in the orderly resonance of the always
constant radiation of the subterranean Underdark. Her sorcery was found. And
while it was minor: chill touches, lightning bolts, and a curse or
blindness... she found a resonance in that subterranean world despite all the
chaotic death and destruction that roamed its cavernous habitat. It was the
first small success in a long life of failures.

Chapter 2

The Azhan pharaohs were said to have weighed the heart of the man against a
feather. Yet an ancient drow proverb stated,"She without a heart or soul,
carries no burden of moral nor conscious thought." So were the dark elves
able to cheat death's judgment and worry about morality even less. An
unhindered life, was a free life.

That week she did not feel very much like a dark-elf.

Not because of morality, but because she worried. She worried about being
caught and discovered. Failure. A fraud. And it weighed on her soul.

So was it then the misfortune of the now Nameless House of Kira, that they
chose that week for their assault on a greater House before Kira's
shortcomings were known.

So was it the misfortune of the now Nameless House when with poor luck they
chose the House of the Imp's Master.

So was it the misfortune of her now Nameless House when the conjuration
spells they relied upon Kira for did not come in the assault.

However, no misfortune at all was the part of the grinning imp who sounded
the alarm the night her house struck. So knowing, always grinning.

Chapter 1

Kira stood on the raised floor before the spider-laden dais with the rest of
the Conjuration graduates. The House Matrons and Masters of the entire city
looked on in approval to each of their respective students.

She could hardly believe it had worked! Her weaponmaster's desire for her
study of warrior training had been a disaster. She had tried the Invoker
Guild and had failed. She had tried the Necromancers guild and had failed.
The Conjurer Guild she would not fail... and so she had made a deal.

Her eyes kept looking to the little imp grinning at her ear to ear. It stood
against the robes of the Master Conjurer of a rival house. Oh how it gloated
at its part in her success! The little imp knew, because it had passed the
tests for her. The Conjurer Guild test! She had done it! Well, the imp had!
But schooling was over and the chance of a possibly fatal failure averted.
The look of approval and acceptance from her House was all that mattered now.
