Chapter 10

From the Heavens and Hells you gaze upon the potent figure of a crimson
and gold wrapped dark-elf.

Glaring into his soul you reach within and instantly find yourself in the
midst of a devouring darkness.

From the far end of the chamber, an Altar gleams within the radiance
of an indeterminable light source.

With the passing of each step the Altar grows closer. And what was once
a gentle buzzing has intensified into a menacing hum.

As the light bathes you in its radiance, the darkness dissipates granting
revelation to the surrounding combs of pure gold.

With a final step the Altar bursts into a swarm of golden hornets that
quickly coalesce and solidify into a statue of two larger specimen baring
forth a book of Divine origin.

Created by what could only be Divine Providence, a statue depicting two
enormous hornets casts a haunting darkness upon you.

Rising high above the height of any Titan, its golden structure reflects
motes of light, granting an unholy illumination to the surrounding chamber.

Immaculately designed to perfect scale and proportion, the intricate
detailing creates an almost life-like visage.

The radiance rapidly dissipates as it comes into contact with the smooth,
polished surface, causing whisps of shadow to creep over the golden Altar.

Symmetric in every aspect, the two hornets face eachother with reflective
mirror likeness. From the arced abdomen that burnishes a glinting sharp
stinger between its antennae, to the positioning of the rear legs on the
combed floor.

A loud gong rings throughout the chamber and the ,once inanimate, hornets
begin to slowly, in unison, turn insectile heads down toward you.

Mandibles displayed wide open challenge your place as shining eyes of an
unholy nature seemingly glare into your soul.

Lowered on jointed forearms, a tome formed of solid ruby facings bound
with a golden lining rests on clawed talons.

Cut with great precision, the front facing bares an inscription of both
title and name.

Calligraphed in a golden substance, the title 'The Memoirs of An Immortal'
and 'Lived by Khrathtyn Din'sarthalas' has been carved into the surface.

Chapter 9

I will begin by stating My name. I am Khrathtyn Din'sarthalas. A noble of
Dark-Elven heritage. Priest to the Great Hornet, Lord Khasotholas.

However... I was not always known as, and for thus. I was born, Dyztrin.
I was not of noble blood, so I bore no last name. My people were a clan
of rebels and 'freedom fighters' who kept in constant conflict with the
matriarch of Teth Azeleth. They believed that through their futile efforts
at war, they could collapse what has sustained power since the dawn of our
kind.

My coming was to be the turning point in their ever downward spiraling
compaigne. A male, born and able to contact an entity that has ascended
beyond mortality. A God and conduit bound by faith to equal Lloth and Her
High Priestess.

For twenty years they waited.

For twenty years I watched.

Within the midst of battle, I was awoken. And left everything I had come
to know. For nothing held superiority to the Dream.

The Dream, accompanied by a malicious swarming in My mind.

Chapter 8

... Blackness...

... Malicious swarming...

... Paralysis...

Then a bright light burst through the blackness, penetrating the confines
of my prison. Illuminating the golden walls of my cell.

Large mandibles reached down and took hold of me in a firm yet careful
grasp. I could feel them tighten, near to crushing, as they lifted me
from my confinement.

Pain surged through me as I was hurtled back to the ground.

... Blackness...

... Malicious swarming...

... Struggle...

The walls of my confinement began to constrict. I could feel, not only my
body, but my very soul wailing in pain.

This would not be my end. I will struggle until my last breath.

... Brightness...

A tear formed above me, granting small motes of light to enter.

This was it. Either I use all at my reserve to attempt freedom. Or I allow
myself to perish here. In the Blackness.

... Freedom...

I could feel my body gain strength as it tore through the flesh sack. I
cringed in disgust as it fell from around me into a heap of organic waste.

Fear struck me down and I was once again trapped in a state of paralysis.

No arms... No legs... Wings... This was not the body I was born in.

Chapter 7

Decades had come and passed. Yet I had come no closer to the meaning of
the Dream. It was as if it were some nimble rogue, silently evading my
every turn... My every thought.

How could a hornet be related to anything with a sentient nature?

Was this Dream nothing more then just that? A dream to be forgotten?

Happenstance brought me to the desert city of Hamsah Mu'tazz. It was
there the evasion came to a halt... It was there that the swarming in
my mind began to grow overwhelming.

I was led north, through a small farming community, into the greatest
city I had ever seen. Enormous buildings and structures lined each side
of the road. Brilliant banners and flags baring the symbol of which I
would soon come to know very well.

With each step the malicious ravaging intensified. Echoes reverberated
in my skull.

The pain increased.

A small church.

An enormous statue of a Golden Hornet.

Chapter 6

... Blackness...

... Malicious swarming ends...

As I looked up, a rather large, gilted mirror stood before me. I was no
longer wearing the flesh of a Dark Elf, but that of a Golden Hornet.

The mirror faded from view.

I began to inspect my new body. It felt stronger. More durable. My wings
reached outward and began to hum softly. I was then interrupted by a loud,
blood-curdled cough.

Before me, a large throne of gold stood. Within it, a fragile looking dark
elf gazed at me. His mouth curled into a wry grin.

Sentinals stood to either of Him. Though they were motionless, their danger
was evident.

Words... Thoughts... Feelings... Emotions... My mind was flooded to the
extent where I thought my skull would explode.

The mirror returned.

As I looked into the reflective surface, a tall and confident dark elf
glared back. My body had returned to normal. But now, the path ahead was
as clear as polished crystal.

Chapter 5

As I regained consciousness, I was met at the entrance to the Church by a
man who called himself, Insilanthos.

'None may enter!' he spoke with a firm tone. His near to motionless body
standing over me, gently caressing the skull pommel on his mace.

Eyes filled with dark hatred seemed to bore into my soul as I replied in
turn. 'I come seeking the Golden Hornet, Lord Khasotholas.'

The hatred in his eyes intensified and something near to a snarl curled his
thin lips. 'Lord Khasotholas no longer bothers Himself with the world you
know as Thera.' Hatred diminished as he glanced down at his hands and flexed
his fingers. 'I feel but a ghost of His strength remaining within me.'

'You will allow me enter the church of Our Lord Khasotholas. For both you
and I are the same, Insilanthos.' The words writhed from my lips. Anger
seethed inside me. I had come too far to be turned away.

The words flowed without thought. 'We are servants of the one true God of
this Empire... The one true God of Thera.'

What could have been a thoughtful look came to the face of Insilanthos. He
glared down into my eyes. 'Why should I believe you are anything more then
another false prophet. You who would come before Him, without wealth and
dressed as a begger. Yet you claim to herald the return of the mightest of
all Gods!'

'For now. All I need... All I desire... Is His blessing. In time, all else
will fall into place as He sees fit.' I seemed to be imbued with newly re-
newed confidence.

Insilanthos, looking down at his hands, sighed. 'He no longer cares for this
world.' And with that, he waved his hand in a dismissive manner.

Anger overwhelmed all sense of reason and words spilled from my mouth before
I could harness them. 'Perhaps you are losing faith, Insilanthos.'

'Arrogant fool!' he roared. Large hands grappled my throat. I could feel the
blood pounding in my head as his hands tightened their grip. A cold energy
surged from his hands, coursing through my body. 'We... Shall... See...' he
rasped before throwing me to the ground.

Chapter 4

As it had been forseen, it had come to pass. I, Khrathtyn Din'sarthalas,
arose from the status of Bloodoathed, into the citizenry of the Empire.

It was everything I had imagined. Everything that ambition had lead me to
strive for.

There were only three other priests within the Divine Sect. I will list
them here, along with their affiliations and My thoughts, for further
reference.

Suncheon:
Supposedly a healing priest of Yean. He has since taken his own life. It
would seem he will be of no further use to Me or the Empire.

'Duergar':
A duergar shaman whose Lord or Lady is unknown to Me. His use seems to be
very limited, so any further knowledge of him will be of little consequence.
I will call him duergar, as I do not know, nor care to know his true name.

Tranacthaw:
A pathetic and impetuous drow shaman. Though he has proven himself to be
of little worth, he is a priest of the newly risen 'god' Enlilth. I will
remain wary of this one, as I am of all heretics, until I have ridden the
Empire of him.

As I had suspected, the Divine Sect's coffers are nearly empty. It would
seem I will have to rebuild the glory of My sect from the ground up.

Chapter 3

Years have come and passed.

Once again, My dreams return Me to the place where I was first encountered
by the Golden Hornet, My Lord Khasotholas. It was in this place, amongst the
combs of gold, that He enlightened Me to the truth of His teachings. That I
emerged from ignorance, taking My first step upon the path toward conquest.

... Blackness...

... Malicious swarming ensues illumination...

Calmly I wade through a sea of agony, reminiscent in thoughts of the power
that accompanies My true form. A form that can only be revealed here. Yet
as the pain begins to subside, I am met with a horrific truth.

Dark ebony skin, cracked and withered, has begun to mend itself around My
fragile, dark elven body. Nothing resembling the exoskeletal shell of an
enormous golden hornet remains.

Proliferate curiosity and wonder is ended instantly as malignant laughter
reverberates through the golden combed hive. All progress comes to an
abrupt halt as thousands of enormous hornets gather defensively against an
unknown intruder. Mandibles splayed wide, ready to attack.

'So this is the Herald of Lord Khasotholas' a gruff voice echoed through
the hive. 'Why would one with so much potential, give loyalty to a god who
has abandoned his Empire?'

'I am Khrathtyn Din'sarthalas, Servant to the Golden Hornet, Herald of
Divine Conquest!' I retorted. 'Who dares intrude within My Lords sanctum?'

Maniacal laughter erupted behind Me, disturbing the silence that followed
the intruders voice. Turning I was confronted by a rather large duergar
hefting a majestic silver scepter.

'I am the Devourer of Nations. I know who you are, Servant of the Hornet.
I have been watching you for some time' he droned on in a gruff voice.

'Then you know that I will be the one to lead this Empire to Conquest.'
My words came with confidence. How could I accept this inferior beast
to be anything more then what I had become. What I was.

His next words came as a surprise...

'For some reason, I believe you.'

... Malicious swarming consumes all thought...

Chapter 2

Nothing but darkness and silence filled the Church of My Lord, Khasotholas.
It has been this way for nearly a century now. Time slowly passes by as He
remains absent to the newly formed Imperial Empire I have begun to create.

As I enter the tiny Throne room, My eyes cannot help but linger toward the
Golden Throne dominating the back wall. Curiosity plagues My mind as I begin
to contemplate the consequences were I to fill its vacancy.

From out in the Imperial Square, the blaring of trumpets echoed throughout
the Imperial Lands and in through the entrance of My Lord's Church. The calm
silence disturbed and My concentration interrupted, I roused from My comfort
and angrily stepped outside.

Formally dressed in robes of black slashed with crimson, Imperial High
Centurions stood shoulder to shoulder in perfect box formation. Behind
them crowded Imperials of all denominations. Divines, Blades, Shadows,
Blacks, Bloodoaths. From peasantry to nobility, Imperials had come from
every corner of Thera to gaze upon the deceased body of Our late Empress.

High Noon approached as the sun reached its pinnacle. Six members of the
Blade Sect stepped forward, each grasping a handle on the plinth, and
raised the casket onto their shoulders. Diverting from formation, Imperial
High Centurions swiftly moved creating a clear path from the Square to the
Imperial Mausoleum. The final resting place of Empress Eoria L'liiri.

Chapter 1

The calm silence of My Lords sanctum continues to be My only source of
peace and solitude. Free from both the ravagings of the primitive, and
the Conquest of My Empire. True, I have come to enjoy the screams and
muffled breaths as Our enemies are slain. However, there is still much
to be done that does not require the use of mundane weaponry, nor the
subtilty of vehement supplications.

Peace and solitude was brought to an abrupt end as thousands of golden
hornets swarmed up into the Throne room from the bowels of the Church. I
was barely able to catch Myself upon the golden Throne before being taken
by unconsciousness.

... Blackness...

... Soft illumination accompanies a malignant presense...

'You have done well, Khrathtyn Din'sarthalas. You have lived to My every
expectation' rasped a voice from behind. 'I must admit, I have been rather
impressed with your success' the voice continued.

Turning, I was met with the source of the presense. Shrouded in black robes
of ethereal silk, a dark-elven male glared down at me. Arms folded at the
chest, His piercing glare set my soul aflame. Bending over, He opened His
mouth and wretched a swarm of golden hornets before spitting a mouthful of
blood to the hive floor.

Slowly re-gaining His posture, He wiped blood from His thin lips using the
sleeves of His robes. Withered arms and hands raised high above His head,
wide-spread, palms facing toward the heavens as if supporting something
massive. His eyes flared a deep crimson as the space above was engulphed in
flame.

Waves of intense heat pounded against My fragile body searing skin and bone.
Excrutiating pain ravaged my insides with every breath. Forced to my knees,
I could only look up in amazement. What had once been flame, had solidified
into the burnished sigil of the Imperial Codex.

A wry smile crossed the thin lips of My Lord, Khasotholas. Raising His head,
He opened His mouth and once again wretched a shroud of golden hornets. Upon
swift wings they swarmed around the sigil. Defending it as if it were their
queen.

'I have chosen you to be My vessel. To take the Throne as Emperor of Thera.
To subject My Will upon those who would name themselves Imperials, and My
Wrath upon your opposition' He rasped. With a withered hand, He gestured
toward the sigil floating above Him. 'When you have proven your worth to Me,
you will be summoned and I will burn into your flesh the mark of "The Imperial
Codex Swarmed by Golden Hornets".

Coughing violently, He bent over and vomited a mouthful of blood. 'Now go,
My priest. There is still much to be done. Now go, My "Herald of Divine
Conquest".'
