This certainly sounds like punishing the character for not doing "the right thing". I don't think many people have a problem with giving him a fitting title. Giving powergamers and lame characters witty titles that mock them is great. The problem is, he went OOC so you did, in fact, punish him for it.

And you can say it was temporary as many times as you want in all caps, but in CF we players tend to think of permanent as stuff we can't change ourselves and isn't an affect that wears off eventually.
