#2827, "Surveyor and Centaur"

A sour looking fellow in an empty tower runs a gloved finger along his map, looking for a specific location.

Finding his mark, he nods to himself, rolls up the map, and sets forth out of the imperial lands, heading for the docks of Hamsah Mu'tazz.

Safely at sea, he begins to make his plans...

After his ship docks, the Imperial Surveyor gathers up his things and begins his journey.

Breaking through the underbrush to the dig site, the Surveyor is met by a strange sight.

After awkward introductions, the Surveyor explains who he is and the amazing things he has to offer his newfound friend.

Meeting with a young centaur named Gratius while surveying the lands north of Arkham for imperial expansion, Plaga the Imperial Surveyor endeared himself to the youngling with promises of adventure and riches beyond the sea. Giving the legendary creature gifts of gold and magic, Plaga coaxed the centaur out into the city of Arkham where he gave the centaur a tour of its many shops. Then, with some prodding, they traveled onto a ship headed for Hamsah Mu'tazz and beyond. There the centaur met many creatures he had never seen before. With promises of imperial provision for himself and his clan, Plaga endeared himself to Gratius and paved the way for subjugating an entire centaur clan under the imperial thumb.

Making arrangements with Emperor Otuerghad Delantr'yl the Deft Hand of Imperial Dominion, the Imperial Surveyor summoned Tirrarraeor the Champion of Arms to issue the bloodoath to young Gratius. Tirrarraeor wished to give the oath in seclusion, but Plaga suggested making it a public display. In agreement, Tirrarraeor suggested they travel to Galadon and perform the ceremony there.

Once gathered in Galadon's market square, the announcement was made and the big moment arrived. But the Champion of Arms protested that the centaur was not dark of heart. Unswayed by this turn of events, Plaga urged the centaur to open his heart to what they were offering him. But the centaur grew suddenly afraid and wished to back out of the blood covenant. Furious at being made a fool before the Emperor and before all of Galadon, the Surveyor drew his blade and ran the centaur through, slaying him. Standing over the corpse, he cried out a warning to any who would feign loyalty to the Empire and then dragged the corpse to the eastern shores.

Climbing the stairs of the lighthouse in Hamsah Mu'tazz, struggling with the weight of the corpse of the centaur Gratius, the Imperial Surveyor grits his teeth in fury.

Driving a pike through the centaur's corpse, he heaves backwards to lift it and secure it to the tower floor.

In a loud voice he cries out, "Let it be known that those who feign loyalty to the Empire will meet a similar end. Centaurs, beware..."

And in a gruesome display, the Surveyor defaces the corpse.

As ships come and go from the harbor of the Sultan's city, news of the impaled young centaur spreads to even the remotest locales.

And the clans of the centaurs receive the news bitterly.
