#2202, "Never EVER do your own rear brakes. :)"

Transmisssions were topping my 'never gonna do again' list, but just
got bumped down by rear brakes. I told my wife to take it to just
brakes knowing it was going to be a problem, but she put it off a bit
too long and one of the pads slipped out and jammed in the wheel and
sheared a chunk.. a thick chunk off the rotor.
So a friend and I. (He used to play CF interesting enough) spend
all day out in the sun. couldn't move the car and there was no shade.
It hit 111 btw. on top of that the wonderful cement was so hot we had
to hop about knee to knee until we bummed some towels to place under
us. In any case you can't compress them like front brakes, you gotta
get this 'wonderful' cube thing that slips off every damn turn. Grrr.
So at the end of the day when I get retarded from heat exhaustion, I
finally come up with a better idea. With the rotor off and the brake
pads out put everything else back together and one person can do it.
(You have to push in while 'screwing' the piston in.) Of course the
piston was hyper extended and out of its threads on top of everything
else. Imagine putting a nut onto a bolt that has what seemed like a
million threads per inch... with one hand.. blindfolded... and on
fire. Really, we'd turn that thing for an hour and move it maybe 2mm.
WTF?!?!?! Rear brakes are the devil.
Thought I'd share, I know no one here really cares, but no one anywhere
else does either, and hey you folks still let me post. Even after
I tried to get it where I couldn't. So thanks for letting me Vent.
