Chapter 2

The felar village itself is typically quiet. Fisherfolk, merchants, and some
bandits take up residence along side normal felar trying to live normal lives.
At times though there arises a break in the normalcy of day to day life. This
particular mewling and grunty kitten did not seem like it would be an example of
anything great, quite the opposite. Kuzoki was the runt of a litter of four. Any
sort of prenatal feedings and growth spurts or promotion of health at all seemed
to have all been given to his brothers and sisters, as it was NOT expected
Kuzoki would even live through his first few hours of life, so sickly and small
was he. In some ways his parents grieved for his existence before he even had a
chance to cling to life.

Growing up he was looked on with pity by most. When he began to realize what
those looks meant as he grew he was always filled with anger. This anger always
served as motivation for him to try harder at all tasks, physically challenging
as they may be. Parents warned their kits not to play with him, certainly not to
roughhouse. For this reason he was frequently a lonely child and frequently felt
excluded from both friends and family. This isn't to say he was unloved, he had
much love from his parents and siblings. He had little love for himself and his
'limitations'.

To prove himself to everyone he decided to join the village guard. This was met
with much laughter whenever he shared his plan. He was ashamed of himself when a
sentry gave him his spear and he couldn't even lift it. He had constant dreams
of the patrol. Dreams where he was the hero, vanquishing large bands of roaming
Frost Giants all by himself. Yet the reality of his situation would set in as he
grew older and he knew he would never even be afforded the opportunity to try to
make his dreams a reality within the felar village.
