Chapter 4

Prosthetic Leg:

After her injury she remained in Hillcrest and began a rehabilitation process
that saw her living there for several years and becoming a staple in the gnome
community even as a cousin svirneblin. Her prosthetic leg was crafted by a few
of the brightest "Tinkerers" of the city. This contraption of iron and brass
is made up of a complex system of gears and pulleys powered by the burning of
alcohol. With it she barely has a limp and can sprint with the best of them.
However the constant burning of alcohol means she has always got to have some
spirits on hand. And this readily available "medicine" will one day prove to
a major catalyst towards spiraling her life further into madness and
addiction.

Heartbreak:

Years later while celebrating her graduation from the Warrior Program with her
friends in Hillcrest at the Longbranch Pub, Ethel heard a familiar laugh
coming from the bar. Turning her head towards the bar, she spotted a slender
man who had several women all around him who were captivated by the tales of
heroism he spun while flaunting a shiny badge pinned on his uniform.

It was the boy she had swooned over so many years ago here in Hillcrest the
day of her accident. He was all grown now, and seemed well off by his orderly
appearance. Apprehension took hold as Ethel stared at her party guest then
down at her mechanical leg. Maybe he wouldnt remember me? Would he see her as
some twisted construct or a one legged freak? Ethel, fueled by her passions
and attraction, mustered up the courage to face him. She slowly walked towards
him, while she noticed the ladies around him dispersing with appalled looks
on their faces as giggling and laughter began to stir between them. Sitting
down next to him at the bar, she shyly gazed over to see his forehead planted
on the counter with a dejected look on his face as he pounded his fist next
to him upon the wood in frustration.

Ethel, making her move reached out her arm to comfort and console the man.

Lifting up his head from the bar, his eyes slowly traced the prosthetic leg
from toe to hip, wavering a few seconds upon her plump bosom, and finally
coming to a halt at Ethel's eyes. Putting his hand on her mechanical leg
the young man said whispered...

"You dear are absolutely breathtaking!"

"I adore you so much! Shall we catch up in the Champagne Suite"?

"I am low in cash right now though, can you pay for it?"

"Just this one time beautiful! I love you!"

And it was this meeting and night of pleasure that would further shatter her.

Ethel had genuinely fallen passionately in love with this mystery man and he
used her for physical pleasure and she was mere object to him. This incident
would propel her off the deep end towards a life drowning her sorrows upon
the bottle and a growing disorder and scary obsession to find this mystery
man that stole her heart and ruined her life.
