Chapter 3

It took months for Teithiwr to fully understand what had happened. What most
confounded him was that he could pass back through the void, but could never
return to the moment he left it. He always came back to the same time, a time
long before he and his brothers became separated. In fact, the giants still
battled on and had not yet been defeated, and no bands of wizards with their
mercenaries set out to raid from Maethien. He spoke with everyone that would
talk to him, but no one even knew of his family, not even his ancestors. The
druidess was kind and as helpful as she could be, she answered his incessant
questions, no matter how many times he repeated them.

She told him what she knew of the ancients. She spoke at length of her goddess
Amaranthe, whose presence she had not felt in ages. She spoke of Amaranthe's
mate, the Hunter-King Joheem, but beyond that it was mostly riddles and
nonsense to Teithiwr's ears. The priestess told him that he could start in one
of three places. There was Ergush, an immortal being of the Outlanders. She
wasn't sure if he was one of the Ancients or not, but she surmised if any
would be closest, it would be he and his priests. It helped that his priests
were also known as diviners and readers of natural signs. There were also two
great libraries of the land. One at the Inn of the Eternal Star, and another
near a monastery to the south beyond the now massive city of Galadon. It was
this second library she suggested he go. While the librarian was known to be
eccentric and a bit cold, she was also known as the Goddess of Knowledge. If
any knew or had any ancients texts hidden away, she would be the one.

In his early wanderings, he also heard of a village of barbarian warriors that
opposed magic in all of its forms. Knowing that magic was what had stolen his
life away from him, he began to learn of their ways and traditions. So it was
that Teithiwr set out for the Academy in Galadon, to better learn the ways of
warriors and begin his quest of vengeance and discovery.
