Chapter 3

The group of students from the Magic Academy of Teth moved with caution
through the tunnels. The word of a strange new beast had spread among their
ranks. Fear was real for these young mages, whose masters considered them
expendable enough to be sent out looking for various ingredients and the like.

The sounds barely even registered before the first of them fell. Most of them
spun, looking this way and that. Then another fell. The rest heard the low
rumble of growls then. They started throwing magic all through the tunnel
trying to hit whatever this beast was. Flashes gave glimpses of a short, ugly
duergar holding two small crude swords.

Blades continued to flash as the young duergar growled. The last few fell
with screams resonating through the tunnels, one limped away though out into
the tunnels, blindly grasping at the walls to lead him away from the Carnage.

The beast chased him, up through the tunnels they went. Out into the night of
the over place. Falling down into the river, they both scrambled trying to
stay afloat. The beast pulled himself through the water near to the mage and
as they neared a bridge south of a shining city, the Beasts sword erupted from
the chest of the drow as he shoved it through the mages back.

Grasping at the underpinnings of the bridge, the Beast found himself on a
great road. Moving though the dark of a new moon, the beast found himself
travelling down the road. Passing several settlements, he felt himself drawn
to a ruins just past a town full of felar. Moving through the ruins he could
hear the ringing of a forge. Walking into the small smithy, he saw the hammer
fall, time after time.

"I've been waiting for you Kariagar. I am Tahren, say the words and you will
find your path." said the man

Karigar looked up at Tahren and instinctivly he said....

"I swear by Boltthrower's axe that I will not rest until magic in Thera is
destroyed."
