Chapter 19

As I had once felt a wavering in my faith, which seemed to keep me on track
of self, and several other times that wavering eventually led to a direct
alternation of self and morals. Upon realization of this change and the
initial discomfort it brings, I felt it was time to return home to visit
my parents and let them know how things have been going in my life in person,
opposed to the letters I would oft' send their way.

When I arrived home, the look upon my mothers face of me was of great comfort.
She could see in me, the woman I am growing into; strong and well placed in my
standing. She said to me "Every day now, you remind me more and more of your
grandfather, he really did have an influence on you, didn't he." Sitting both
of my parents down, I told them of my change of faith, yet my values holding
strong. Their looks upon me did not alter at all, with exception of my father
sitting me down to tell me a story. I rested in front of the fireplace with them.

My father went onto recant this.

"Stefanie, we raised you to be a good girl so you would certainly make a good
wife, and be able to hold your own in the kitchen, however this we did not
expect at all. We raised you within an aura of gold, so that which my father
followed would not peak your interest at all."

My eyes raise at the notion, "What do you mean father?"

"You see Stefanie, your father too walked the grey path. He knew it was truly
the only way he could hold an unbiased view of the world, and see through the
eyes of his enemies, or his generals enemies. It is why he was able to do
the great things he did."

I stand up and say "So, you are saying you raised me the way you did in the
direct circumstance that I would not turn out like grandpa?"

My mother nodded, "Yes dear. Even as a little girl we could see that glint in
your eye, the kind only 'Pa would have while studying in the library. We
did it for what we felt was the best for you, but it seems his legacy lives
on through you, both in career and in your moral choices."

Embracing me in a hug, my father whispers to me, "You really seem to have
a good head on your shoulders dear. You seem to have been lead onto the
right track in all ways possible. May you find great comfort in your place
now, and do your grandfather proud; were he alive today, I assure you he
would smile upon this day of your actions."

With these new changes in my life in place, I slept in my room, gathered
my grandfathers tactical warbook and writings, and prepared my trek to the village.
