89, December 17: Miscellaneous Ways to Receive Edge Points (with bonus IMP info)

You receive edge points for getting level 51.
You receive edge points for reaching old age.
You receive edge points for getting level 49 with an xp penalty of 100 or less.
You receive edge points for getting level 49 with an xp penalty of 300 or less.

As far as I understand it, these can all be cumulative, so heroing and reaching old age as a character with an xp penalty of 100 or lower maximizes your potential for edge points in this manner.

EDIT: Rahvin/BoltThrower/ShaidarHaran corrected me in a few spots.
Bonus IMP info!
I've seen some questions and very odd guesses at answers regarding the original Implementors of CF.

Originally there were 2 IMPs, Rahvin and Derit. Morgath and Galadriel were mid-level imms. Morgath didn't do much but promise that he could get a server. Galadriel ended up helping code.

Rahvin was the idea guy and main catalyst for making CF happen, at least in my eyes. Much of what you love about CF as it stands now (and probably some of what you love to hate!) stems from his visions. Rahvin became BoltThrower and ShaidarHaran at varying points of CF.

Derit was the initial coder. I don't know much about him. I do know that after CF was up for a few months, he seemed largely AWOL. He returned a few years later with a grand scheme to make CF run much faster using threaded code. As I recall he left his project half-finished and the various other coders we had at the time had to fix everything.

Galadriel did a lot of coding - the brunt of it after Derit left and until we got others on board who could assist with it. She tried to teach me how to code for CF, and I gave up after my attempt at Cone of Cold crashed the mud for 2 hours.

94, XP Penalty

Can you clarify XP penalty?

Is this saying if you don't die to a mob before 49?

Is this saying if you don't get some sort of penalty from an imm before 49? (I thought I read somewhere you can get negative imm xp or something along those lines for doing something crappy)

Does this have to do with class XP penalty?

102, Thanks, Twist Kringle, a follow up question if you don't mind

So if I'm understanding you correctly a races like human, orc and halfie (100 xp penalty) get edge points for reaching level 49.

Races like arial, felar, dwarf (250 xp penalty) get a smaller amount of edge points for hitting 49.

Races like elves and giants (>300 xp penalty) get no edge points for hitting 49.

Does that seem accurate?

Sounds about right. I'm guessing the reason is that the advantages of picking a low xp penalty disappear as you approach 51. This is a small perk to compensate.
108, Yep.

It was also put in back when classes still had an XP penalty, so maybe we'll rethink how it works a little at some point.
