Played an animist and this was such a disappointment when I got it for one reason. If I took one step off the terrain it was cast upon the thing disappeared. Given that a lot of areas go from mountain, to plains, to forest in two steps, this made it appear useless to me. Rangers already have enough pro-camping tools they don't need any more encouragement. Would it be possible to drop it's effectiveness off of it's home terrain instead?

I've made it no longer disappear as you travel through various terrains. It does however decrease the time it sticks around when you are out of it's home terrain. It also won't camouflage anywhere but it's home terrain.
