#224, "Anti-hoarding addendum"

Make it so that a character cannot hold limited items unusable by race/class/gender/cabal for longer than a week IRL.

Stop evils from holding onto prayer beads, stop goodies from holding onto Armageddon, don't let battle sit on the staff of wonders or let outlander sit on the avello books for longer than a week IRL. If your character cannot use a limited item but has held onto it for longer than a week IRL, it will pop no matter how many hours you've played in the past week.

Increase gear circulation and prevent lame hoarding games. A week is more than enough time for a thief to find somebody to buy it, or a scion to despoil it, and if they do not, no big deal, not as if they had a really big use for it anyway.

****

"But Vortex," you say, shaking your head at the obvious problem. "What happens when people game the system simply by dropping the item in an out-of-the-way area and picking it up later? Or give it to a friend for a bit and then pick it up later?"

Obviously, you can't really prevent every sort of hoarding abuse with this idea. If people REALLY want to try and powergame their enemies and hoard unusable stuff, it'll happen anyway. But IMO it'll still be better than the status quo now.
