https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/06/everquests-long-strange-20-year-trip-still-has-no-end-in-sight/

hits on a lot of similarities such as the community, newbies, nostalgia, and such

also was interesting to read 'end game' mattering, as if only CF hero range is what matters. that resonates with me because i just can't play 1-40 any longer, too much grind

I didn't read this article (yet anyway) but unless it's mentioned in their, I remember enjoying the fact that EQ had some mud-like commands from the gate. Turns out, this was because one of the main designers was a coder from the circlemud style TORILmud (later derivatives becoming Homelandmud, sojournmud, and I'd like to think duris and basternae).

What I didn't like from the original EQ was its tedium... that's how it was in Torilmud, RP and PvE only and most of the real content simply being end-game. But at least it retained some commands like /who and /where... etc etc.

No real point to the post, other than pointing out the dots that can be connected.

Thanks for sharing.

I can somewhat empathize with the line: "As long as people want to play it, we will be here".

I never personally played many MMO's, and never did Everquest. I think I only ever really fiddled with Dark Age of Camelot and Darkfall. But it's interesting to see what they're going for.

Fun read though, thanks again!
