Wood elf druids with resist metal should be able to hold iron like a half-elf would!

The vulnerability of pure elves/wood-elves to pure iron goes well beyond "skin irritant". It's a deep-seated fear and abhorrence. You won't see us weakening it with lots of loopholes.
