Since iron burns elves, perhaps FIRE DAMAGE should be implemented for iron weapons when they strike elves/wood elves/half-elves.

And the same application for mithril weapons striking drow/half-drow.

First problem with this idea:

Elf/drow invokers/healers with Fireshield or Resist Fire.

The burning elves get from handling their nemesis material isn't a heat thing either- if anything I could see it changed to wrath, but that creates some other problems.

We really need to codify our reasons for why these things happen.... they've all been planned out and discussed, but not enough of it is out there in MortalVille.
