Tanyl the Champion of the Virtues

Chapter 5

Most of his history is blank, what he has is very
fragmented and for the most part not very pleasant.
Some of the implanted persona still exists, that
part of him Tanyl will seek to grow. The part that
follows the Light, and seeks to aid those in need.

Guild: His cover persona has gained some attachment
and as such his time in the Paladins guild has started
his new path.

Religion: Saved by faithful of Korsgaard, it seemed
obvious to Tanyl that fate wished him on that Path.
Unknown to him, being born under the sign of Dedication,
he will fit himself into the role of a pathfinder hopeful
well. Striving to find a way to use his situation to
lead others to the paths they need to follow.

Cabal: Having passed his initial tests from Nicolette,
and being free to roam without a guard now, Tanyl has
wandered the realm seeking to find more of what he
knows to be out there for him. Whisperings of the
Fortress started the day of his salvation. He will
seek out the Brigade, knowing that he can put at least
some of his former training to work for good.

Chapter 4

Tanyl woke not long after being returned to the guild in
Voralia. He tried to sit up, only to find silver shackles
connecting his wrists to a strong silver bed frame.

"Do not struggle" came Nicolettes voice, "You have been
trough a lot this eve, you soul has been freed. But
there are... remnants."

"What...." Tanyl said

"You soul has carried a heavy weight, for a century or
more. It will take some time for it to....regain some
strength. For that you will recover here. Once we
are certain you are safe to yourself, you will be able
to move about the guild. The next step, we'll send you
out with....Friends. Then we will see what goes on from
there. You have much to be thankful for Tanyl, that
two of Korsgaards faithful were here tonight... that you
are stronger than you know.... That you soul was not
stained, and you can recover... But there is much work to
do. You will learn here, and when you are ready, you will
find your way to the Fortress to repay that debt and...
with hope and righteousness we will get back to your
beginning, and find those responsible. For now, you must
temper yourself. Control your actions, and learn to
be true to your new Path. What comes after that will
remain to be seen. Rest now Tanyl, your life awaits."

Chapter 3

Years passed, Tanyl moved to Voralia and apprenticed himself
to the guild of Paladins there. His back story complete with
a crest of a noble house in Darsylon, and a lineage that dated
back millennia, he was readily accepted.

Nicolette though, sensed something. Seeing the shroud of
something laying over the man, she took him in, but a close
eye had to be kept. Something was not right.

Walking down the street one eve, Tanyl felt a presence behind
him. Walking softly, almost in total silence, he could feel
them getting closer. It came then a whisper in his ear...

Words, strange words, meaningless to most any who heard them,
but the key turned. Tanyl's face changed then, a mask of
controlled rage fell over him. Gone as soon as they had come,
melting back into the shadows, they neglected to see the two
following in phoenix marked cloaks. Grabbing Tanyl by the
arms they pushed him into the corner of a building, and
with a quiet prayer, put him into a deep sleep. As he fell
to the ground, they continued to pray. His body stiffening.
Tanyl moaned in the forced sleep. The two continued to pray,
a dark mist rising from his body, into the night.

"Its done, said one of the figures. As much as we can do as
it were. He will hurt, both in body and soul. But he will
heal. We must watch him. He was the first, but we are sure
he won't be the last. Take him back to Nicolette. He will
have questions when he comes to, she can start with the answers
she has, and then we will return and counsel with them both."

Chapter 2

They named him Tanyl. His training began not long after we
left the wet nurses strings. A killer in the making, they
started first laying down the spells of submission and
control. Once in place, he was effectively theirs. The first
of his kind. Utterly obedient, totally committed, and completely
ruthless.

With healers nearby, he was taught their methods of fighting.
Bare of hands he learned to take blows as well as deal them out.
Many a day, either he, or his training partner were near death
by the end of their training, only be be brought back from the
brink to train again.

Decades they trained, to the brink of death and back again.
Every few days, spells of control were renewed, and more
layered on.

Finally, almost a century later, the last spells were laid
down. These were a complicated weave. The first set to
lay down a group of tasks. Those that would be executed
when the time was right, the key was used. The second set
a complex layer of forgetfulness and false memories, to
mask his true purpose.

Chapter 1

In the dark of the night, the shadows moved. Silently
they crept into the treetop home. The baby slept in
a cradle next to a modest bed. His elvish parents
sound asleep. One shadow stepped out from the rest
and looked down at the infant....

"This one will do." he whispered as he nodded at his
compatriots who stood with blades poised over the
sleeping forms of the parents.

Silently they slipped into oblivion, only opening
their eyes for a short time as the blades first
entered their skin.

Picking up the babe, and holding the sleeping boy
close, they slipped back out as silently as they
had entered.
