#471, "More eyeball-easing ideas"

Bear with me as I explain this. I think you might really like it.

I was thinking, a simple spacing scheme between items, NPC's, and PC's in rooms might make things a bit easier on the eyes. As I've gotten older, and my eyesight has become a bit crappier, this kind of thing takes me longer to sift through. Sure, it may only be a few fractions of a second longer, but it's noticeable.

If you walk into a room, along with people in your group, it might look like this.

PROTECTED civilized <100%hp 100%m 79%mv 2050tnl (50.00%)> s
Market Square
This bustling square lies at the intersection of the High Road and the
Trade Road. Traders from every city have come here to try to convince you
to buy their cheap wares. None of it is even worth a second glance. The
High road continues to the north and south and the Trade Road continues to
the east and west.

A shoddy haversack has been abandoned here.
The Imperial Recruiter seeks to expand the Empire.
One of the elite guards is here, watching the gate.

What I'd prefer to see is this: Spacing between Items, NPC's and PC's. And, reverse it so that PC's always are on the bottom of the list, if you look into the room. The top makes sense, until you consider that the text scrolls up and if there is enough stuff in the room your eye has to drift upward (away from the relevant stuff, like the fight you are in and what's happening to you right that moment) to see what's going on.

So, here's the same log snippet, doctored to appear in the way I'm referring to:

Lastly, to get rid of screen-spam from a lot of items being on the ground, I propose that after a certain amount (let's say 10), you just see "A pile of items lay here." If you examine the pile, you see the list as if you were looking into a container. However, you don't "get item pile" to grab them, you just "get item" as per usual.

Once again, ready for coal.
