#77, "Immortal Bio: Velkurah"

(K-rin IMM) (TRIBUNAL) Velkurah the Keeper of the Valma Katol

Velkurah glances about curiously.
Velkurah says 'Is the tape recorder on?'

Grurk taps the mic.
You say 'Yep.'
You say 'Please state your real name for the record.'

Velkurah puts up his thumbs, signaling his approval.
Velkurah says 'I'm usually called "Jeff", amongst my non-digital circle of friends.'

You say 'And your primary state of residence?'

Velkurah sits down and thinks deeply.
Velkurah says 'Tired?'

You chuckle politely.

Velkurah says 'Or Michigan, take your pick.'

Grurk nods, jotting down a few notes.
You say 'How long have you been playing Carrionfields?'

Velkurah says 'Okay. I've been playing since... 1995 or 1996ish.'
Velkurah says 'Post-purge, but not by much.'

You say 'Who was or is, your favorite Mortal follower to date? Why?'

Feedback from the mic echos throughout the room with a screech.
Grurk covers his ears.
Grurk makes a few adjustments to the sound system.

Velkurah says 'Hm'

You say 'Loaded question.'

Velkurah says 'I can't really answer that... too many of my followers are still alive.'
Velkurah chuckles politely.

You chuckle politely.

Velkurah says 'Once more of them have died, maybe we can revist it.'

You say 'So, you'd say... you very much like the followers you have?'
You say 'Enjoy watching them and all?'

Velkurah nods.
Velkurah says 'Yes, quite a bit.'
Velkurah says 'With the passage of the Patriot Act, I can watch them more then ever too.'

You chuckle at his joke.
You say 'What has been your most memorable Carrionfields experience?'

Velkurah says 'Hm.'

You say 'Playing Zorszaul shouldn't count, since you really shouldn't talk about past mortals.'

Velkurah says 'Ah, okay.'
Velkurah chuckles politely.
Velkurah says 'Well, can I list several?'

You say 'Please do.'
Grurk gets his pencil ready.

Velkurah says 'Most memorable...'
Velkurah says 'Participating in the Horn of Fate quest has to be near the top of the list. That was great.'

You say 'For those new to CF, what was the Horn of Fate quest all about?'

Velkurah says 'Oh, that was the large quest that was run to change CF over to the Third Age... it led to the introduction of spheres, it split the clerical class into three neo-clerics...'
Velkurah says 'It introduced empowerment for those three new classes, and it introduced communing. Before this everyone cast their spells, even if they were a cleric.'

You say 'Gotcha.'

Velkurah says 'That was probably in... 1996 or 1997?'

Velkurah says 'Various trips to hell, in particular my first trip with Jarlandra, and the one time I made it to Satan.'

You say 'So, is Satan as nice a guy as everyone says he is?'

Velkurah says 'Well, I could tell all about it...'
Velkurah says 'But I also just told which state I live in, which means Scarabaeus might be able to track me down, so I'll just go ahead and keep that to myself. '

You chuckle politely.
You say 'Gotcha.'

Velkurah says 'Oh, other memorable stuff.'
Velkurah says 'Those probably top my list from my mortal playing times, although I had a few particularly notable interactions other then that.'
Velkurah says 'Immorting was a highlight, but in particular making level 53 was fun.'

You nod.

You say 'Why did you become an Immortal?'

Velkurah says 'Hm. Which time? '
Velkurah says 'I'll just assume you mean this time.'

You chuckle politely.

Velkurah nods wisely.

You say 'Yes.'

Velkurah says 'It's another aspect of the game that is fun, and that I wanted to explore.'
Velkurah says 'And while I like "giving back" to the game and all that, it IS a game, so it's about me enjoying it in the end.'
Velkurah says 'And frankly, this is fun '

You nod.

Velkurah says 'Not that it doesn't have its ups and downs.'
Velkurah says 'But the downs and occasional hard work is worth it.'

You say 'What one piece of advice would you offer new players?'

Velkurah says 'Oh, that's easy.'
Velkurah says 'Learn to die with grace.'
Velkurah says 'I've witnessed so many people - and known a few myself - that just totally lose their cool when they die.'
Velkurah says 'And that will ruin the game for you.'
Velkurah says 'Once you can get past that, and learn that dying isn't really all that bad...'
Velkurah says 'Then you can really start enjoying it.'

You say 'Enjoy death?'
You say 'Umpossible?'

Velkurah says 'No, enjoy the game '

You chuckle politely.

You say 'What one piece of advice would you offer CF Vets?'

Velkurah sits down and thinks deeply.
Velkurah says 'I would tell them to remember that it's a game they're supposed to be having fun with, but just as importantly...'
Velkurah says 'To remember that the people they are playing with should be allowed to have fun too.'
Velkurah says 'There's often little ways to contribute to that.'
Velkurah says 'But for the most part, I think players know if they're being overly mean to another player, even beyond the bounds of what their roleplay may require.'

You nod.

You say 'And finally...'

You say 'Don't you get tired of the My Little Pony jokes?'

Velkurah says 'Never. You see...'
Velkurah rubs his hands together in greedy anticipation.
Velkurah says 'My biggest secret is that I only play a pony on TV. But if I were a REAL pony, I would think they were funny.'

You say 'I see.'

Velkurah nods.
Velkurah says 'Makes sense, right?'

You say 'Well, I'm fresh out of apples, so you'll have to take a hoofshake for thanks.'

Looking pleased, Velkurah beams with pride at an apple.

Grurk reaches out and clasps your hoof.

Velkurah says 'Oh, and for all you potential followers out there...'
Velkurah says 'Calling me "pony" wont get you empowered. '
Velkurah says 'More likely it will get you a smack or two.'

Velkurah extends his hoof, and shakes your hand.
