THE SPIRE: FLENTSPIKE’S FURY TEMPERED BY MERCY

Magistrates could use more heart, claims Noldruk Flentspike; Lady Bria remains confident

THE SPIRE, Galadon (Feryxonis) – Somehow mixed with the distinct clamour of steel and the calling of the guards are the sounds of a hammer forging metal. Since days long past, these sounds have rung forth from the Hammer of Justice, Noldruk Flentspike. As the Spire’s first Provost, Flentspike single-handedly wrought justice upon countless criminals during a period spanning the rule of three Grove leaders. Fueled by the flames of the Noldarian Forge, and tempered by the cooling hand of Mercy, Noldruk helped shape the Spire into the force of law that it is today.

“In recent times it's seemin' we're more havin' numbers rather than strong hearts,” observed Flentspike, now retired from service. “Equallin' the same, but I'd rather have five rigidly dedicated lads, than twelve who are questionable … We're needin' stronger hearts, that's all … Few are puttin' forth as much effort as I'm likin' … They do their jobs, but, eh..”

Indeed, Noldruk feels that times were tougher in his days. “Galadon was ablaze. Daily. We were often without the Scales of Justice,” recalled Flentspike of his humble beginnings in the Spire. “The Sylvan Warders were aggressive ta the point as I'd never seen.. I wasn't expectin' my job ta be peaceful, but when startin' my duty, I was defendin' the Spire from attacks, retrievin' the Scales, puttin' out fires in the whole of the city, while all the while tryin' ta keep order with the citizens. I wasn't a happy dwarf, ta be said.”

“One always views their work as harder or such,” said Bria of Flentspike. “But to address what he speaks of, the quality of the Spire will always ebb and flow, much like the tide … We always would like more quality … But it takes time, to teach and train; I think perhaps he forgets that. Each lot has problems but it also has hope, it is up to them to make of it what they will. I do not see this group as worse then any others.

“This is why we have different jobs in the Spire - so that we can train, build and use each to their full potential. But as always, there are standards that must be met and few are willing to take up the challenge.

“I have hopes to see the lands filled with Tribunals, watching over and enforcing the laws for all. I always have hope that a special one will come along and prove their worth, as a Justiciar or other for all to remember. Noldruk served the Spire well during his time, something he should be proud of.”

One explanation for Lord Noldruk’s inimitable work ethic is his Noldarian philosophy. “I was joinin' fairly young, the elven lass Uelveyye bringin' me in ta the city of Galadon,” recounted Flentspike. “She was more holdin' ta the Anvil. I was holdin’ ta the Hammer. Nazira …was showin’ me the teachin’s of the Noldars … Likely bein' the most influential person in my life.”

The former Provost reflected proudly on his personal achievements and hopes to inspire his men for the future: “I marked the Grove fer eradication, and nearly brought it about. I've killed quite a few people.. quite a few indeed, lass.”

“The Spire will stand for all to look towards for guidance and Justice,” Bria pledged to the public. “If they wish to support it, or join it, they know where to come. For those who seek to bring it down, they can try, but they will only fail as those before have.”

WARLOCKS REMAIN UPRIGHT DESPITE SINKING, SLANTING TOWER

Damaged but not ruined, says El’Feanor - Lich is on the run and reconstruction underway, assures Oakenstaff

ARYTH OCEAN (Feryxonis) – Overlooking the blue-green waters of the tumultuous sea, the Golden Tower of the Warlocks once stood firmly, a bastion of scholarly light and an ivory tower of arcane academics. That is, until an icy hand reportedly laid things to ruin. As it stands, the resting place of the Grimoire now tilts listlessly at 15 degrees, mired in what could be a watery grave if left in its current state.

As a symbol of Warlock power, some have wondered whether the damage to the Tower signifies something greater. However, the Warlocks were quick to assure that nothing is out of the ordinary. “The Tower itself is not in ruin, but it is badly damaged,” explained Karithia El’Feanor. “The power of the Warlocks does not fade, but wanes like all the other factions in Thera do. At times strong, at others weak.”

Preceptor Jhard Oakenstaff offered a positive outlook on the current state of affairs. “The Tower is but a building. I look not to buildings and objects as symbols of power, but actions.

“The Warlocks have had a resurgence and are growing in power. It has taken me many years, but I have recruited many mages,” explained Oakenstaff. “ working to destroy a lich, for one.

“He runs constantly. He is too busy running from the forces of light. Every moment that he is running or hiding is a moment he cannot be tainting magic. It is the conglomeration of the forces of light, and the good citizens of Thera joining forces to eradicate a great evil from their land.”

The Golden Tower is comprised of both magic and material, which highlights the unique nature of its damage. “The story of the Tower’s damage is an old one, and well known. It was by an Ice Drake,” the Preceptor recounted.

Reconstruction plans also appear underway. “If your house was destroyed, would you not rebuild it?” quipped Oakenstaff.

SYLVANS TO MOUNT FURTHER ATTACKS

“Hunt” in cities will continue, warns Jarnaksa, Eregale

GALADON (Feryxonis) – The intensity of Sylvan attacks in the City has waned. Now, an uncomfortable silence has distempered and disquieted the mercurial lives of Galadonians. Yet, this unsettled feeling may very well be justified. The Sylvans have not ended their hunt, according to Grove leaders.

“The future for the Hunters of the Grove is the same as it always has been,” said Alysrith Eregale, former Warder Captain. “The Sra will be preserved, and the Weh removed...until the Tora'sra comes...and all is Sra. As for me...I aid the Sra as I can as a Spirit, among the Spirits.”

“The last few days I have had the blood of many Tribunals on my hands,” claimed Starkad Jarnaksa, current Warder Captain. “The Grove is strong. Tribunals will die.

“Such attacks will never stop. As long as they strike their “criminals,” we will strike Tribunals. Crime is based on rules on paper – it limits freedom. The Tribunals stand in our way, they try to protect the cities that leech on the wilds around them. We protect what is precious to us.”

When asked about Grove policy toward citizens who aid or seek protection from Tribunals, Jarnaksa replied, “It is a choice for them. I do not care for their lives if they are so foolish. We do not strike citizens, only those who … stand in our way.”

At the end of the interview, Jarnaksa had this concluding remark to offer: “Turn away from the cities, and you will see the wonders that the walls has blinded you from for too long.”

On behalf of the Grove, Eregale pointedly stated that in order to be spared from these attacks, citizens must vow “to tear down the cities that don't belong...and to live as one with the natural, to turn against the drow, duergar, and other Weh among them...to embrace the Sra completely. That is what it entails ... No more, no less.”

Eregale, a native of Ysigrath, has committed herself to the destruction of the civilised world, whose “shovels of wood and stone” threaten the ideals of Tora’Sra. “Sra” and “Weh” roughly translate into “Life” and “Death,” respectively. More information on the Saurian tribes of Ysigrath can be found at the Lyceum of the Eternal Star.

KARAKAN AND PRIESTS TO HONOUR RHEGMA

SEANTRYN MODAN (Feryxonis) – Near the central plaza, marked by the strange scent of freshly cut lumber, blood, and sweat, is a construction site bustling with slave labour. Here, amidst piles of wood and stone, in the face of growing skepticism surrounding the existence of Rhegma, Karakan announced plans to raise a temple in honour of the Beast Lord. However, the minotaur Priest of Rhegma was reluctant to comment further.

Little is known of the fledgling minotaurs, whose relative obscurity and unintelligible speech has ensured their enigmatic status. Unlike their more placid bovine ancestors, these hateful creatures prefer rancour over roughage. “I thday away vroomm Hegedableth annd vruid annd thuch … Nooo grashsh,” stated Alan, a minotaur of the Village and self-professed carnivore.

Even the divine order of priests eschew words in favour of action. “I did nnood breach,” said Karakan of his mortal past. “Mmy loord demmannded dad I broohe mmy dehoodioonn inn baddle.”

Far less is known of Rhegma, who reportedly does not have a corporeal existence. Yet, the Beast Lord seems to be more than just a figment of the imagination. “I nneher mmeed Rhegmma,” recounted Huromhaur Deathhorn. “He gread, he coomme oonnly inn dream.

Deathhorn, a Priest of Rhegma, assists his Lord in both a managerial and financial capacity: “I amm leader oov hith Beooble. I amm briethd oov hith Demmble … Id thdill buildinng. Mmanny thlahe woork. Iv yoou wannd woord, denn I exbecd Doonnadioonn.”

Speaking of donations, benefactors wishing to contribute to the Rhegma cause should be pleased to know that the funds are put to good use: “Yoou doonnade goold doo Demmble. We uthe, doo buy thdoonne annd thinny dinngth. Dad way id work,” explained Deathhorn.

If anything is clear, Karakan has assured that Therans can expect more from this rising clan: “Mmoore dedailth will coomme, I cannnnood be mmoore thbecivic nnoow.”

ORC HORDES QUIETED … FOR NOW

Former Chieftain cites need for more killing, less hiding.

GRINNING SKULL VILLAGE (Feryxonis) – Where have the screams of anguish, the ear-shattering drumbeats, and the inexorable march of the Horde been as of late? They may very well be hiding for now, according to former Grinning Skull Chieftain Straklaw.

The former Chieftain attributed the subdued status of the orcs to a general lack of leadership: “Orcs not be lots strong just not have Chieftain be lead. Chieftains be kill lots enemy, Grinning Skull be strong.”

Many lost their lives fighting the Horde under Straklaw. “Straklaw strong Chieftain. Kill elfs, kill Warder, kill BattleRager! Lots die, Chieftain kill, eat,” recounted Straklaw of his terrifying reign.

According to Grinning Skull custom, all candidates for Chieftain status must prove their worth in a brutal fighting match that often results in death. But even victory in this violent ritual does not assure widespread support or approval. “Kurgtuk fight Bolg, be Chieftain. Kurgtuk not be lots strong how Straklaw be strong. Hide lots caves...not kill lots enemies.”
