I thought the stripping of hide was very cool and imaginative. He didn't simply "strip hide" he basically tossed a permanent slight glow onto the character(also changing what he looked like when you saw him in a room). Which from what little I know of Arvam's role fits his style. The game mechanics side(which for a variety of reasons is best to keep simple) was to strip hide.
