The hottest ones are bluish white(surface temperature about 15000 K, B-class), then there are white stars(9000 K, A-class), Yellowish white stars(7000 K, F-class), Yellow stars(5500 K, G-class), orange stars(4000 K, K-class) and red stars(3000 K, M-class). The colour also depends on stuff like the chemical composition of the star and such.

As for movies and sci-fi, wouldn't it make sense for the alien life to be found in planets around sun-like G-class main series stars that have about the same luminosity? As far as yellow stars go, I think that they are common enough in main series, though not all stars are yellow(and not necessarily the majority, but I can understand why sci-fi would favour them).
