#26852, "My thoughts on Outlander"
|
When dealing with the outlander restrictions and so on, I get the same feeling I get when I have to pay my bills. I don't like to pay my bills, but I have to anyway. So, if the game is supposed to be fun then I think outlander is a tad too restricted for it. Now, take that train of thought and add in that the cabal is supposed to be about freedom, and it seems pretty ironic to me.
A lot of people whine about the powers it seems. I think they are pretty good powers. Although, some classes that seem to be more suited for outlander already get like skills. Such as rangers with pathfinding (+fly potion). They get butcher, camo, and snares also. That makes a lot of outlander powers useless. However, for some other classes, I think the powers could be used very potently.
The wilderness time that is required I don't agree with. I don't think it is hard to get the right time either. Maybe the true outlanders should have to deal with this, but a idea of mine is to give outlanders a power like deputize. That way they can sort of recruit uncabaled characters or even cabaled characters to help them reign havok onto cities and give those characters timed access to some powers like ignite or vandalize. I imagine a few punks giving a few posers some crowbars to go beat someone up.
On a further note about the wilderness deal: why has outlanders seemed to be so wilderness friendly? When it first came out I thought cool. It isn't sylvan. I thought they'd be more like the crowbar wielding punks. Now that I've experimented, I've found it isn't much like that at all. And that it does seem like Sylvan in a lot of ways. Or maybe that is the characters making it so. I'm not sure. I think some alternative powers would be nice though. Like instead of deadfall in the woods, a outlander could rig small explosives in cities or something. Diffrent properties for diffrent areas instead of being so one sided. Outlanders do need to bring it more.
Another thing that irked me was the total lack of allies. This could be just because outlanders is still new and not a lot of players have decided to play it yet. Although the amount of enemies outlanders has is staggering compared to their numbers. A evil mage in outlanders for instance, can only really travel with heralds. All other cabals oppose that character. A neutral or good mage has fortress I suppose. A neutral or good fighter has fortress and ragers, but you'll still find a lot of conjurers, paladins, duergars, and dwarves in those cabals which makes it pretty limited. A evil fighter just has ragers, and once again duergars and dwarves are abundant in ragers. So, leveling is tougher. It does make things pretty exciting though, but frustrating at times if you can't find a group to level with.
I do like the idea of it. I like playing characters that fit into the cabals philosophy. I wouldn't mind seeing it polished a little more. Thats about all I have to say about it.
