#268, "Outlanders of Thar'Eris"

From 'help outlander history':

In the Ancient Days, the land bore no burdens. She cried not under the weight of the cities, nor due to the sting of reckless magicks. She felt not the agony of dwarves and duergar boring into Her flesh, nor did She weep at the enslavement of Her children.

In the Ancient Days, Her spirit roamed free. Tears of joy flowed freely as rivers, and Her bosom heaved as mountains that soared unblemished into the sky. Her breath flowed fresh with summer rain, untainted by the stench of soot and filth upon the wind. And Her children, oh how She adored them, running wild and true, free to hunt and howl and thrive in the ecstacy of Her bounty.

The Ancients had a name for Thera in the time before men first erected strongholds, before dwarves first smelted iron. Before man grew so arrogant as to exalt the laws of civilization above the commandments of nature. They called Her Thar-Eris.

The name of Thar-Eris soon slipped into antiquity. As trees fell and cities erected buildings in their place, as kings came into power and as tyrants enslaved, the flame of liberty soon extinguished. The Ancients, spirits that once nourished the land with Their wild energy, soon became forgotten, sinking into the recesses of the Mother's Dream. There, they slumbered, sleeping to forget the betrayal of the children that She so adored.

But now, the Ancients have awakened, once again harkening the name of Thar-Eris. The encroachment of civilization has become too great a burden for the land to bear. Her breath is labored, and She cries for respite. Deities and spirits both forgotten and remembered heed Her cry, and sound the clarion call that marks the coming of a new cycle.

Thar-Eris shall be restored.
