73994, Footing edge question
Posted by clnt2020 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Hello everyone!
Out of curiousity, does footing edge helps against those fancy and modern paladins with the staffs (against their lags during their poledances)? By description, it should, but I'm not sure if it really works.
73995, Even if it works it's a limited reprieve

Because the maneuver skill is very reliable and the edge says it is not that effective at countering compared with alternatives.
73996, Which alternatives?

There are a better ways to counter it (except for weakening)?
73997, Not what I meant

I meant that the other things like caverndweller sure footing, and outcry of steel (I think it is) are said in helpfiles to be better than the footing edge.

So given the edge is a poor man's cousin to those other things, and given how effective maneuver is, I doubt the edge would do much more than just delay the inevitable.

If I were to guess what might help, enlarging might.

That said, maneuver is only useful in a few situations. I've used it in the mausoleum when attacked but I could have just batted the guy until he fled.

I've used it against the wrecking Ball conjurer kanaev to knock him out of the room before his servitors could engage me. Repeatedly. It wasn't that effective as he just kept trying again until it failed, but then neither was anything else I tried!

And you need to be lucky for someone to fall for you standing next to a lethal hazard, be it mob or deathtrap.
73998, No, I've been talking not about maneuver!

I was asking about this spamlag move:

**

Paladin pushes you back with a firm strike from the staff, disrupting your attack.

(No idea what skill is it, so can't find a helpfile :))

I'ts a crazy effective command denial + lags everyone + mass feint. That's fine, I know how to counter it, yet I wonder: if it **pushes** you back - does footing edge helps? Should work, imo, because footing is designed to help against all kind of pushes, drives, etc. But I am not sure if it's coded, hence the question!

About the footing edge itself - it really helps a lot vs pulls/drives/etc, making those moves fail a lot, and forcing enemies to use something else against you (once they learns that it is not reliable at all and, most likely, won't work). Actually, it's a very good edge, especially if there are enemies with drive legacy, or those who knows how to use pull/drive effectively. If there are such heroes in range, footing edge is a must have for me.
73999, That move is fend

You can't open combat with it so command denial or sleep can work.

Also fend seems to be used by strong (big) champions, with bat more often favoured by Dex champions. So enlarge night help against it. Not sure.
74000, Thank you!

By utilizing the reach of a staff or polearm, a champion attempts to push back
their foes and **re-establish their footing** and position. A paladin who
successfully fends off his opponents defends himself more ably against them
for a short time. Additionally, as the paladin advances in levels and becomes
more proficient with this skill, they gain a chance to strike at those they
fend as well.

"re-establish their footing" sounds like as footing edge should work! I hate to test it.

Thank you for the hint!
74001, No

It is the Paladin who is re-establishing his own footing.

If anything refers to the paladin's enemies it is the "push back" bit.
