73707, Autodeletion timer
Posted by Hard Working Gnome on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Hello everyone.

Just thoughts about autodeletions. Most of us are not teenagers anymore, and having a work/families/vacancies/etc. I, for instance, are going to Asia for a month. I wonder if my character will be autodeleted if I won't login for exactly 30 days?

Thanks.

That's correct. See HELP AUTODELETE.

You already know how to use a VPN, evidently, so connecting to CF once in a 30 day span from Asia hopefully isn't too much to ask if you wish to keep your character.

Good luck!

You have to use it 100% of time when half of the business resources are banned in your country...

How about adding a 'vacation' command, that may be used once per 3-4 months, and would extend autodelete timer for 15 days?
73714, No

Logging in for 1 minute within a month is a pretty low request. I'm against extending it any further than it currently is. If you can't manage a minute login in a month, your character probably should poof.

If you think that's unreasonable, keep in mind there are still existing and alive chars that have existed since 2013. It's very doable.

Well, it's looking strange for a caballed character to loging and instantly log off from the RP perspective. Just my opinion, but maye it's okay. I feel myself uncomfortable, for instance. And of course playing from the smartphone is not an option. Well, I tried.
73722, It's an option, just hard

The best I've found for it is the bmud app.

At least you and I can have an even fight. :)

With bmud I've been able to have a few hotkeys (e.g. trip fred). The difficulty is seeing them where they float on the screen because they are quite hard to see.

Also managed to set up some actions for spamming skills and spells up. Normally I spam manually but when it's hard to type (i.e. on a phone) I find that functionality makes like less painful. Provided you can find somewhere quiet you shouldn't die as a result!

Thanks for the hint! I'll try it.
73763, Update - Blowtorch works

Hey!

Thanks again for the advice. I found a bit better app - Blowtorch. Testing it on a newbie; died once to the scorpion in the sand of sorrow on 15th level 😁🤦🏿‍♂️

But getting better with it, and maybe I'll get used to it enough to play my main. Couldn't find variables here, but buttons, aliases, triggers are working.

Sometimes it loses all configs, so if you'll going to use it, make sure to export settings often (and reimport then in case they will gone).

Glhf!
73775, Read that it does that

Also think I read that it can crash while you are gaming, which was why I didn't go that route.

Might give it a try.

Never did crashed, looks stable.
But yes loses configs, which is easily countered by backups and reloads. Happened just twice so far, I'm now ready and it's not an issue.
73724, It's okay sometimes

I think it's okay to log on and log off right, if the other option is losing a good character. People know that sometimes real life gets in the way of mudding.

It's a game. Do what makes it most fun.
73721, How doable it is completely depends on your circumstances

In my own case, I have to deal with:
- child has cystic fibrosis so I spend a lot of time caring for her where others wouldn't. For example, I need to give her physio multiple times a day (and often night). I need to make sure she eats pretty much non-stop when I'm around (unless she's asleep) because her calorific needs are about double those of a non-CF kid. I have to administer digestive enzymes, special vitamins (because she can't absorb fat soluble vitamins like the rest of us do), concentrated iron solution, and salt. I also need to ferry her back and forth to the team that looks after her at the hospital, for tests, checkups, briefings etc. Sometimes all this this just knackers you out and any free time just gets used for sleep.
- work, which gets super busy at times
- trips abroad without my laptop (since the point is to spend time with family or friends).
- looking after the house and garden, which takes a lot of work in my case since I'm surrounded by forest and it's continually trying to encroach/dump leaves on me. Also supervising building work.

Above all this is the fact that my wife gets really stroppy if I play cf, so I have to find times to do it when she's not aware.

I've been caught by the autodeletion code a couple of times, and by hoarding code more regularly. I'd rather the autodeletion code just kick in sooner to remove leadership (early), then cabal membership (later), and the actual loss of the character takes longer than it currently does.
