I'm not sure what the exact question is here, but I'll take a stab.

Paladins do require empowerment. The reason they (and other empowered classes) are not recommended to new players is because the roleplay demands for empowerment are more stringent. You have to be prepared at all times to be watched, and different immortals have very different styles re: empowerment. Also, you will often have to search out a shrine, and pass either an interview or small quest.

If you feel that your roleplay skills are up to the task, you are welcome to try a paladin. Without empowerment, you will not be able to earn new skills or supplications past level 10, but other than that, you generate the character like any other.
