2224, I finally cut the cord...
Posted by Moligant on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Starting Dec. 16th I'll be without cable tv. I'm going all in on hulu plus (which I get through my sister in law for free)

So here are a few questions for anyone who has ditched their cable.

1. Can I get AMC and FX shows on amazon prime the NEXT DAY or is that one of those wait a year deals. I googled around and couldn't find a clear answer. I don't want to miss out on Sons of Anarchy, Mad Men, etc.

2. I have Netflix for the at-home delivery of movies, is ponying up an add'tl $8 worth it for the streaming worth it if I have Hulu? I definately will keep Hulu for the network shows next day.

3. Do I need to go buy a hd antenna if I have hulu for the network stuff anyways?

4. My wife I think has netflix on her laptop, can we use that on our TV as well?(which would solve the issue in Q2)

5. I access Hulu using my Xbox 360. Is here any reason I should go get a Roku if I already have the Xbox?

6. How do I access Amazon Prime if I decide to get that? Through my Xbox?

Oh...I calculate that between ditching cable and a small change on my cellphone plan ill be saving over $80.00 per month, any ideas for a small monthly investment?

1. You have to wait. I have Amazon Prime now ($99/yr) and despite having to pay a bit more if I want AMC/FX shows right now (i can wait) it still has alot of pretty recent movies and the two-day free shipping thing will come in handy. So all in all I find the pricing fair. I'll be soon investigating this Amazon grocery delivery thing and let you all know how it works out....unless someone already has groceries delievered by amazon and cares to chime in on their experience.

2. I still get the at-home movie delivery, no streaming, even less likely to go this route now that I have amazon and Hulu for streaming. I'm hoping when they start those new Netflix-only marvel tv shows (daredevil, iron man, power fist, etc.) that they have these on dvd as well otherwise depending on the reviews I may have to go streaming on netflix and drop one of the others. I'll keep you all posted.

3. Still could use an answer on this, the one thing I miss is local news though I still get plenty of news online but I do kinda miss just stopping at a news channel, now I have to actually be looking for news.

4. She no longer has netflix (free trial is up alas)

5. No need for Roku as far as I can tell.

6. Yes. Through the xbox.

Got a NEW question!

I also thanks to a relative have HboGo through my xbox 360. However I can't seem to get Cinemax which I really want for episodes of Banshee (season2). Anyone out there know a way of getting Cinemax as an app through Xbox 360? OR any other means specifically for getting episodes of Banshee.

2260, Don't have to wait a year for AMC shows

Download VUDU and buy the season - it's cheaper. You get the shows the next day.

I've been off cable/satellite for almost a year now. It's glorious and I'm saving a bundle.

2261, Wow that's a timely response
