Imho, anyone who says the character was balanced, is smoking some potent stuff. Perhaps it's the sort of 'not balanced' like a Lich, it's _meant_ to be that way, but, it's pretty ridiculous... Things just never seemed to fail and were more potent (yes, slightly) than their counterpart, while lasting 2/3 of a day or waaay longer and being incurable (yes, unless you have a healer or other poisoner ally nearby, but that's really not that often). So, on to the more realistic solution ...

Maybe, but especially to cover your one weakness. So, pretty powergamey, if you ask me.

To summarize, it's your perogative to play this, and you did it exceptionally well, kudos on that, but the mechanics behind it are just silly. So, your subject does sum it up nicely.
