Well then, done sulking, so where to begin. Its very hard
to sum up one of these long lived chars in a few lines, so
lets start at the beggining. Synoria was basically Joan of
bonkers who worshipped, Corrlaan. She was meant to be a
maran from the outset, but, in her first talk with Corrlaan,
he said he thought Acolytes were closer to him, so that was
that, she HAD to be an acolyte. She was pretty much...
well, as she used to say "I'm a terrible Acolyte, and a frankly
shocking Cardinal". This char evolved squat over all those hours.
Besides stat loss and the like, she was basically the same
maniac at death as at creation. Religious zealots can be
very disturbing people, I played her as though she actually
believed she could shake the world with her faith.

She was named Cardinal when still pretty fresh, and I have to
admit it did end up burning her out somewhat...Think I saw
something like six captains come and go during her tenure in
the post. Thankyou, Corrlaan for offering me the out, leadership
is something I used to covet, but if someone else can
do it, I'm more then happy for them to take the reins...
besides, I enjoyed the whole elder thing =) Was licence to get on
with being the reckless world shaker she always saw herself as =)
All the same, this was pretty shocking timing to try play a gutsy
goody. Two liches, strong orc chief...I can recall bouncing between
and orc horde and zombie army more then once...Still kept things
interesting.

I have so many goodbyes, I do not know where to begin. When I first
became Cardinal, Mizfara was still the Captain, so that may give
some idea of the timespan.

The state of the wars then...I actually think things are pretty
good presently, though people tend to be overly cautious, worse
things can happen then having your char die, and you will surprise
yourself at what you can achieve by just shrugging and having a go,
still, its all about having fun, so do whats fun, and let the
haters...who ever they and you are, wallow in their own bile, I
say. Curious thing really, but I actually don't think ganging is
worse these days...I remember how things used to be and the Imperial
folks, while much bashed, don't come near the old days of ten man summoning bands. Still, I think a little boldness would make them
unstoppable. Liches should age death! I say this for no other reason
then being jealous and petty. You guys keep doing what you do as
long as its fun, and more power to you =)
Hmm, Nexus...Sorry to join the bandwagon on this
one, but I'm not sure they are that great for the game. In seven
hundred hours, I think I recieved nexan aid once, and was attacked,
backstabbed, ganked silly and generally pooped on by people I
couldn't justify trying to kill countless times...That and they
never actually seem to be around when the darkness is actually
strong...hmmm.Scion, I simply can't stand, but that just shows
they are filling their niche, and could be blasted scary when they
had a presence, which is what being a scion is all about. Outlanders...stop perching in the redhorn, it was hard enough getting
people to fight without you people scaring them away =) Heralds...
more people should make heralds, I've always found it sad you
don't get the inn full of people anymore, sad for the rp
aspect of the game, and game atmosphere all round.

Well...will ponder a big goodbye list, but guess that enough ranting
for this ducky. Keep having fun folks =)

Ducktrainer.
76493, Much much fun.

mean business, even if the pile was all 'our' corpses. -Volu.
*snicker*

I loved Syn to death, awesome character. Though I always thought
you should have been a maran instead. Hehe. Thanks for some of
the tips with templar's def.

Later.

I hated the character because of the stalemate it brought. You could not kill me and I could not kill you. I could rarely stop you raiding (with defiance) but you could never stop me retrieving so long as it was only you and maybe one other. I was all for just letting be when I come up to a scenatio like that but the religious zealot thing at least explains why you just did it regardless of the same outcome. I did enjoy our little fights at the chasm and me trying to come up with ways of repelling you.

-----Abernyte

P.S. Definately more a maran than an Acolyte

No more playing at centurions! Always a laugh you were. I'll miss you on those long lonely Australian nights.
76497, Great char...

Met you with several incarnations, friend/foe/neutral, and always top notch from what I saw. Good luck with the next one.
76498, I remember you from way back!
Posted by Kernagor on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
You played Nimloth, didn't you? I was Seonex back then.

Ah, memories. You've really improved a lot, and I really liked Synoria. Maintaining those consistent login times was during Kern's lifetime was pretty crazy, though.

I thought you were getting burned out near the end of Kern's life, but you stuck to the character for another several months. Seriously impressive to age death that. Kernagor really liked Synoria, and you impressed him enough that he even spent a couple of hours poking around certain really annoying parts of the underdark to find Bal'Talon for you.

I liked how during our times occasionally there'd be 50 fort online, which was kind of fun cause we could devote time to gathering shinies and didn't need to spend 24/7 worrying about cabal items, and there'd occasionally be just me and you against half a dozen enemies, which was also fun in a desperate sort of way.

Good times hanging with you. Hope to see you in the fields again, in whatever incarnation.
76499, Since I got feeling that you are woman in rl
Posted by Ahtieli2 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
btw, do you? :P I've soft spots on women who plays muds.

I must say it was great char. Only char that killed me solo :P Yea I know I was really unlucky there but still well done. And you were probably the only person I could not do anything, of course I could outdamage you most of the time but still I felt hopeless when I had to fight you.

Only thing that bothers me a little were you "whinny" tells, though you've never sent "whinny" tells about yourself, but only about imperials being "unfair" to other folks.. Few times it had nothing to do with imperials but there were no ways you could know that.

P.S.
Geez I hate champion stance. :P
76506, This is too bad

Synoria, what an earful! Joking aside, I actually enjoyed our bickering back and forth (or whatever you'd call it). Well done on the zealot thing it really did come across.. though I hope I gave you at least as much of an earful as you gave me. GLWYN.

You were always interesting have around, even if I couldn't figure out
why you weren't a Maran. I always felt like our relationship was best
described as two teenage sisters having to share the same bathroom;
we got along well most of the time, as long as we didn't get in each
other's way. The things we didn't see eye-to-eye on (and there were
a few), neither of us was going to budge an inch. It was fun, and I
look forward to seeing you back again soon.
76544, Kinda pissed me off
Posted by Hayim on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
We met early in Hayim's life and you did something he didn't like. He asked you politely and nicely not to do it anymore. You did it again. He asked you politely and nicely not to do it anymore. You did it again. And for a third time he asked you politely and nicely not to do it anymore.

Then you did it again. It was like you were deliberately trying to be an ass. Which succeeded, and totally turned me off to the character. No idea how that fits in with the role you've described, and lots of other people seem to have liked you, so kudos on that, but in our little corner of thera I thought you were an arse, sorry.
76476, The paladin code is pretty specific about attacking in town.
Posted by NMTehW on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Summoning me to the room in the flying drummer and attacking was pretty douchey, and would likely have earned you a clip round the ear from any fort imm watching. But you know that.
76477, Not really...
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
9. Respect the laws of the land and those who seek to enforce them.

It is not uncommon to interpret that that, while you should RESPECT the laws and the intent of the laws, sometimes they don't quite cut it and you need to break them in order to truly follow the spirit of the Code.

Now if Synoria was a Baer paladin, that interpretation isn't really accepted. But that's entirely up to the individual's role, and the patron Imm for how they might interpet that.

But in general, the Fort has no policy on attacking in town, so I'm not sure why you assume they would step down and say something about Synoria doing it.

NOTE: I have no idea who Synoria's Imm is, or what her role regarding this was. Just trying to point out that other interpretations are out there and are valid.
76479, It's the most unambigious sentence ever.
Posted by NMTehW on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Knowingly breaking a law quite clearly constitutes a failure to respect it.

You'd have to be some sort of clown to argue otherwise.
76481, No it isn't.
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I respect my mother. She worked her ass off to support all of her kids, and I couldn't possibly think any more highly of her.

But I still snuck out and broke her rules.

Respect does not necessarily equate to obedience.

It is perfectly viable for a Paladin to look at the spirit of the Code (and the spirit of the Laws) and make a decision that doesn't necessarily jive with the Tribunal enforcement of the laws. Again, it depends on the specific situation, the role of the Paladin in question, and the viewpoint of the patron Imm in question.

But regardless, generic "Fort Imm" isn't likely going to slap a paladin down for that.

EDIT: Edited the title of the post, I talk English gooder than that.
76484, I disagree.
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Edited to add:

And to be clear, I was part of the group that wrote the paladin code. . . so it's also not an oversight that parts of it are potentially up to some interpretation or wiggle room.

Of course, nearly all religions that have paladins are hard line about parts of the code, but they aren't always the same parts. That, again, is not an accident.
76516, How about making the helpfile for the paladin code less ambiguous then?
Posted by NMTehW on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just an idea.
76517, Because it's supposed to be?
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Every paladin out there isn't intended to be exactly alike.

The code is good the way it is. It provides a guideline for Paladins to structure their actions around. But it still needs to be interpreted based on each specific Paladins background and role.

That's a good thing.
76478, Urm...
Posted by Duck_Trainer on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Not sure I even remember this...seven hundred odd hours involved
quite a few scrapes and tussles like =) Had you attacked me first?
To be honest I can't even remember where that inn is, much less
this attack. Only time I would attack in town, generally was after
being struck first, I don't think people should be able to hide behind
the code, thats not its function =) Who is the player? The only blatant crime I can remember was with his Orcness, which I confess to
shamelessly, wanting to get him away from the horde.
76488, I challenge you to play a paladin that does that and isn't Tribunal.
Posted by Scrimbul on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Your already pathetically low body count is going to be even lower because you decided that code meant you can't break the law to do your freaking job. (To a certain extent killing evil is all paladins job)

As Synoria said, the code isn't designed for other enemies to hide behind it. It specifically exists because one of the reasons is it's a class powerful enough to necessitate ganging it, like village Zerkers.

The other reason is that the code (and the fact that you can interpret/ignore parts of it dependent on religion) makes the paladin class RP what it is, not it's PK.

Tis the east, and Corrlaan is the sun!

Fun, stuff. Thankyou again CF for saving me a fortune,
all these hours spent huddled over my computer in my
pyjamas are buying my house =) Will post some goodbyes
...actually...I never do goodbyes, after saying I will...
will think really hard about doing goodbyes later.

I have nothing bad to say, which I suspect is a sin.

Anyways, will post my general ramble...urm...sharing of wisdom
next day, as I'm still wallowing in the sulk I feel after losing
one of these long lived chars =)

Oh! And thankyou for the echoes as I was ghostly, was awfully
dissapointed with the lonesome, anti-climactic end to this
chars most outragious life.

I will echo my comments from Fendril, thank you for everything you taught me. We had some interesting conversation back when Fendril was still around. I still wish we had had that conversation about what Inglor would have done against the Empire vs what one of my Magistrates at the time did against the Fortress. Me, of course, having no idea at the time you were you. Thanks for stopping by when Fendril finally bit it, that meant alot to me. I wish I could have interacted with you more after Fendril died, somehow I wouldn't be surprised we run into eachother again. see you in the fields.

That will do nancy.

This has to be what...four or five? Six maybe? Someone knows what she likes to play.
76457, You're welcome
Posted by Rayihn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I was glad I was able to catch you, I knew this was coming. Was just settling down with my coffee when I realized you were dead! Crap need some echoes!

Baer strongly disliked Synoria. You probably noticed. Thought you would have made a better "get your balls out there" Maran than an Ac olyte. But you really stuck to your quirky RP and I as a player respected your character quite a bit. You weren't my ideal Acolyte but then again you didn't have to be. Playing something off kilter is fun.

Good luck on your next, maybe next time it'll be a Ray/Baer elf pal. ;)
76458, Funny you should mention that....
Posted by Duck_Trainer on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Synoria was a terrible Acolyte! Synoria strongly disliked
Synoria and would have thought a lot less of Baer if she didn't
actively dislike her. I did sense the dislike, but seeing,
Synoria was technically insane, she actually fed on it, in
a sick kind of way, and thus the stuff of rp is born =)

Heh heh, and I already have. I had a justiciar who was a Ray
follower, that preached love while killing people for sneezing
in public. Now a Baer tribby, hmm, that has potential, one
who...

76466, My favorite enemy
Posted by Nererial on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Took me a long time to figure out how to handle you (besides rot). At first, you felt almost invincible.

Synoria, to me, was what a paladin should be. Brave (as in, went into fights where you were more likely to lose than not) without being rash, tough, and honorable.

The only thing that annoyed me about Synoria wasn't anything you were doing wrong. It was that you did the right thing and kept hitting the palace when I was trying to do something else, like explore. :(

You'll be glad to know that I'm the one that gets rotted by the High Priest(ess) now. But it's kind of fun knowing that when it doesn't work, they get annoyed. :)
76480, Quality character
Posted by Duck_Trainer on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Nerer was a good sport and generally always up for
a tussle. We had a rather odd relationship...many
loggings I'd spend more time chatting over things with
you then with other fort members. Have to confess my
redemption talk angles are getting pretty worm and tattered
around the edges, but still...no harm in trying =)
Shamans really were my bane, even with faith as a virtue
is does you little good if its gifts are all dispelled in
the first round! When you had a basher with you, I generally
knew I was toast...well most times...remember that time on
eastern I thought it was clever to try killing the entire
Imperial council by myself?
All the same, I think yours is a great char, and interesting,
the last I'd have expected to actually rebel against her Lichiness,
and gawd knows I tried to subvert everyone enough. Stick in there =)
76482, RE: What light....
Posted by Cielandaicyl on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I liked this char of yours. You were agressive and well played. I interacted with you with a few. I remember our rot anguish with Nererial. Made for some long boring times waiting out rot time after time.
