Chapter 36

The "Question"
Added Wed Mar 6 12:38:21 2024 at level 51:

"Is a life of adventure the destination or the journey?" is a thought that's
been rolling around a lot during the later years of Outhyen's life. He has
been able to live long enough to see a great many people come and go. See
young saplings be planted, grown into towering trees and back into lichen
covered trunks as they are laid upon Her. Though this cycle has come and
gone, he remains, more eroded than his granite foundation and far from his gem
peddling parentage.

His adventures, stories and memories grow ever larger and more in depth even
as his body slowly deteriorates. The relationship seems inverted but none can
escape the grand cycle. Regardless, the question remains. How can the weight
of a journey through the chamber of an ancient dragon, still loopy from fungal
spores, be compared to becoming food for them? He doesn't know.

Being no-longer the Harbinger, does he vanish into obscurity or something else?
As it stands, Outhyen has been a benefactor, spreader of joy and intoxication
among those of the Outlands, even more so as he's aged. Maybe, just maybe,
his legacy will be to encourage others to smile more, drink more, and enjoy
their time awake with Her, until the long sleep.
