In the remote foothills of one of the southernmost mountains in the realm,
lays a little principality of Fujisaki. It is a principality in name really,
this remote kingdom is made up of two villages that nestle the banks of a
fledgling river. Ruled by an ambitious Lord Fujiuchi, Fujiuchi was not a
despot or a man of evil intentions though he was very pragmatic in his
approach on life.

A constant source of anxiety to Lord Fujiuchi was the
meager size of his kingdom and his two children. Balu and Kritori. The
kingdom was much too small to support both the children at this passing,
Fujichu knew he would have to find a way to enrichen himself. His hope had
always been that he would marry off his daughter into a well to do family,
increase his influence and assuring that his small kingdom pass on to Balu.
Kritoris infatuation with martial training and general life view as a
tomboy however caused considerable complications for Lord Fujiuchi and his
plan.

Lord Fujiuchi caught a break when a rival from a little ways down the
road came calling. Lord Ogoshi, despite being ten years the senior of Lord
Fujiuchi came expressing interest in young Kritori. While any father would
have hoped for better for his daughter, Fujiuchi wasnt about to look a
gift horse in the mouth. He knew right away that this was likely as good an
offer he was going to get on odd duck daughter.Reluctantly and perhaps a
little hopefully, Lord Fujiuchi approached his daughter telling him of a
possible suitor and an end to all his anxiety. That went over about as well
as one would expect, though in a novel twist Kritori accepted the proposal
with a demand that Lord Ogoshi would best her in martial combat to earn her
hand in marriage.
