Chapter 2

Training and indoctrination

They named him Tanyl. His training began not long after we
left the wet nurses strings. A killer in the making, they
started first laying down the spells of submission and
control. Once in place, he was effectively theirs. The first
of his kind. Utterly obedient, totally committed, and completely
ruthless.

With healers nearby, he was taught their methods of fighting.
Bare of hands he learned to take blows as well as deal them out.
Many a day, either he, or his training partner were near death
by the end of their training, only be be brought back from the
brink to train again.

Decades they trained, to the brink of death and back again.
Every few days, spells of control were renewed, and more
layered on.

Finally, almost a century later, the last spells were laid
down. These were a complicated weave. The first set to
lay down a group of tasks. Those that would be executed
when the time was right, the key was used. The second set
a complex layer of forgetfulness and false memories, to
mask his true purpose.
