Chapter 9

Notes.
Added Sat Dec 8 05:37:00 2012 at level 1:

I) Azhelak knows very little of the Curse. As each generation became slightly more savage
they kept less and less records. Oral tradition also decayed as most of the Clan resorted
to simply wallowing in their despair. While it is commonly thought that this was placed
by the Ancients for discarding the Spear of Purity this is not known for sure. What is
certain is that ever since it was taken by the mage Draclivis that each generation has
been afflicted.

II) Azhelak is pure of spirit. That golden aura, his lineage to Izholuk and the fact that
he was born under the stars of Purity are the reason he was chosen by the Guardians to
explore the mainlands in hope of breaking the Curse. This aside the Curse does have adverse
affects on him. Pushing him toward lust both of the flesh (which he resists) and of blood
(which he uses in his war against the vile). These impulses make him quite chaotic. His
home in the swamp coupled with his need to explore have pushed him toward formal training
within the Ranger's guild.

III) Azhelak is a beautiful person. He is caring, fiercly loyal individual who is more than
willing to kill and die for those he loves. However he is far from beautiful physically and
this influences how he interacts with people. He is very self-conscious of his appearance
and the shame that comes with it. This drives him to be mostly clandestine. Those who see
past his physical condition will find him to be the ideal comrade. He is especially concerned
with his face and aims to keep it covered at all times.

IV) He worships Baerinika for a multitude of reasons. Most pressing is that the Spear-Maiden
is the modern representation of Purity in the realms and from what little they know of the
Old Gods they believe her religion to be close to that of their former Matriach. Secondly
Azhelak has taken passionately to the war against evil and he feels that this desire for a
total victory over the Shadow (even if it means the Curse continues) is necessary. What little
peace he finds in this world is in the worship of Baerinika. This aside he feels very insecure
about approaching her. Unworthy may be a more appropriate term. For now he will simply leave
her gifts from his hunt within her shrine.

V) Azhelak wants to join the refuge as a Sunwarden in hopes of righting the wrongs of his
Ancestors. He believes that civlization, dark magic and tyranny will only result in more
men like Draclivis causing more harm on the natural way of the woods and the people who honour
them. Furthermore he has reason to believe the Lich Draclivis still exists. If this is the
case he intends to find him and avenge his people through his destruction.
