Description

This human woman stands roughly 5'7, with thin, snow white hair flowing
down to the small of her back. Her skin is somehow pale next to her
hair, which allows one to contrast her bare skin to that of her
voluminous robes, also of snow white. Her eyes are very dark brown
however, which cause them to stand out starkly against the field of her
face, and appearing to take in all light and attention greedily. She
stands with a well trained posture, which would not be out of place in
any court. Much of her body is hidden by the robe, but any motion that
can be detected seems to be given the same amount of attention as her
posture, clearly displaying a focus upon maintaining a sense of grace.

Hunger

It is said that hunger comes not only from the body, but also from the
soul.

So many go through life without desire. They work their farms, genuflect
in worship, marry whomever their parents choose for them, and die. They
believe themselves happy throughout this time, but in truth they are dead
inside. They feel no drive to take more...to crack the bones and suck
out all the marrow of life. I was as such.

Until recently, it seems, my soul was quite satisfied. But now...the
emptiness is a constant companion. An void that, like fire, grows
hungrier the more its fed.

I cannot help but feel a sense of foreignness to this insatiability,
though...it is not unwelcome. Why should I be satisfied? The cup is
ever half empty, and the wonders of the world are not to be found in this
place alone. If these thoughts originate from another, why then should I
not take them for my own?

There is a rumor that the Queen of the Ooze, Mergulla, has died. But
there is nothing to explain how or why, so it is likely nothing more than
hearsay, and she is off in some stygian pit gorging herself, detached
from mortal affairs. But if it were true? The Nexuns make no claim to
the balance of powers shifting, so the essence of her definitely
remains...would some tiny piece make itself manifest amongst mortals?
Where had the rest gone if so? So many questions.

Chapter 2

Changes

I do not understand what would cause such an abrupt change in her
personality. One day she is a model child, much beloved, and now she has
become...what she is now. I had first thought it was an effect of coming
into her magical talent, a sort of delayed change if you will, but this
is far too severe.

I first noticed that something was different when she came to me claiming
she felt ill. She described her symptoms as an intense feeling of
hunger, but that was not satisfied even by eating to the point of
purgation. I gave her a laxative and told her to rest, assuming that her
melancholy was out of balance. But this was only the beginning.

She began to play horrible pranks on the housekeeping staff. Razorblades
put in toolbags and glued to cabinet tops. Buckets of powdered glass
above doorframes. Childish pranks turned deadly. However, despite
severe punishment, it continued. That is, until she became bored of it.

She seemed to mature quickly in this time. She began inviting courtiers
to the home. The housekeeping staff would have nothing to do with
keeping watch on her, given what she had done to most of them. Thus she
was alone with them for hours at a time. But it soon became obvious that
not all of them were actually leaving. Blood would be found in locked
rooms in the basement, but no bodies. Strange writings on the wall,
speaking of some queen.

She has always been a methodological, even obsessively compulsive, child.
She refuses to do anything without a proper etiquette in place. Because
of this, I was able to anticipate some of her behavior, allowing me to
follow her.

I found her over the body of Monsieur Deuxplan, speaking of honoring a
queen for teaching her the beauty of life, something about finding her
desires.

Upon the wall were strange writings, in blood, presumably the man's. I
could only see make out the word "prophecy" among the various markings
and smeared words. I feared too much to confront her then, so I left
before she noticed me.

Today, when I brought the police, however, she was gone. All of her
possessions, save some of the gold, were left behind. It should be
assumed, therefore, that she will not be returning for some time.

"Say it!"

She jabbed a third sliver of hot iron under his fingernail. He certainly
had endurance.

But nothing lasts forever.

He sobbed in anguish, defeated.

"Blindingly." he said in a barely audible whisper.

She giggled mutedly, in proper, noble fashion.

Then cut out his eyes.

"Merci, monsieur. You flatter me." she said, turning away from him as
he writhed in pain upon the table.
