Flaaayin the Harlequin Hated by Death, Drillmaster of Battle, Spymaster of Blackclaw

Description

An incesent clicking can be heard coming from this arial. It is the
first thing you notice next to his massive plummage. The plummage is
a dirty red and green but it is flowing and long. The tail feathers
extend almost four feet behind him. The clicking continues, which is
this arial's beak, continually opening and closing, clenching because
of some kind of internal stress. Beyond the wild plummage and endless
beak clenching, this arial has beady pale green, almost olive eyes.
His eyes look like tiny olives from the groves near Balator, and within
the center the iris is a bright red. If you didn't know better it looks
like his eyes are olives stuffed with a bright red pepper piece. The
rest of the his body is covered in strange implements and tools. You
can barely make out what each of their purposes none the less be able
to identify what they are at all. They seem ad-hoc created, with tiny
vials and built contraptions more numerous than you can identify. The
one thing you do notice is despite all of these clickig pieces of metal
and glass, he still moves silently besides that endless beak clicking
noise.

Chapter 11

The Spider, the Prophecy, the Poison

So much has happened, so many interesting things, and I found myself
doing what I do best. Deception comes in many layers, and it seems
I am on the highest layer pulling the strings of the lower ones.
And that is what it seems. The Prophecy called for someone to "betray"
Ghrimriddor and have him fall from the village, and it was my work
and manipulation of the brute Karkarrak that caused it in the end.
And then I just manipulated Karkarrak out of his possible Commander position
but forcing the Rites of Leadership instead of him being named Commander.
That spider seems to be me, with my poisons and traps, and vile ways and
frankly I am fine with it. I am doing what is best for the village and
only the village, and the feelings or positions of others do not matter
to me.
In addition, I have finished the task set out by that Dark Elf Weaponmaster
to get Ghrimriddor removed and the Empire in a position of great weakness
and uncertainty. And I work even now with the newly appointed Emperor to
have peace between us but guarantee no Black is ever appointed to the
council. They will accept, as we are crushing them, and in return we will
offer a short peace.
I am but the hated jester, the sneaky spider, the dasterly bird, and the
vicious Drillmaster. So few know how talented I am. I only wish that
Lyristeon could see these actions and how delightful they are. But then
again do I do it for recognition? No, I do it for myself.

Long live the Drillmaster! Rather that then Commander since I can work
in the background and still be as powerful if not more.

Chapter 3

Landing In Hamsah

The young female arial lands gingerly at the west gate of Hamsah Mu'tazz. She
looks around while coddling this ugly speckled egg. The Sultan's gate is nearby
and she walks up to it and scratches under her beak thinking. While she is doing
that a slaver walks by pulling a few very young arials. Not knowing what to do
she waves the man over to talk.
The large man sees her and her frightened face and sees profit, so he waves for
the chained up arials behind him to sit and he leisurely walks to her.

"What can I do for you ma'am?", he slimes.

"Do you buy eggs of arials? I found this one and want to make some profit", she
whimpers.

He cackles loudly! "Certainly, I'll take the egg, but its not worth much. Show
it to me."
She unfolds it from her wings and shows him the ugly egg. He recoils then laughs!

"That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. I'll take it off your hands, but I
am not paying you. Consider it a favor.", he mumbles through a chuckle.

Distraught and confused, she just hands over the egg and flaps away, tears
falling from her eyes as she flaps back to Arial city.
The slavemaster's eyes glisten with profit, something this unusual must be worth
something. And just at that moment the egg cracks open and a tiny speckled beak
breaks through the shell.

The slavemaster watches as the little arial breaks his way through the shell and
smiles. This may be the ugliest arial he has ever seen. And ugly brings profit
to him, and he knows the perfect place to sell this ugly duckling.

Chapter 4

Jester'ing and Performing "Magic"

The slavemaster walks away from the Sultan Palace giggling, counting his gold.
It seems the strange young arial did fetch an excellent price, as a jester in
training to the Sultan. His plummage itself caused people to laugh and point
which means this arial would make a great clown.

Flaaayin, as he was named by the Royal Court Magistrate, because of this foolish
arial's ability to get into trouble and be flayed and whipped for it, was excelling
in his ability to create mischief. And strangely enough Flaaayin enjoyed everything
that came with learning to jester and entertain.

He especially excelled at slight of hand, smoke and parlor tricks, and disappearing
acts. He also has a very high level of skill with mechanical and herbalism. All
of these skills lended him to be the best props entertainer in Hamsah Mu'tazz.

And what came with that was a number of other benefits. He was extremely well
fed, had access to the Sultan slave women who were kept just for the Court's
entertainment. He had a very comfortable living quarters, and had almost free
reign of the Palace.

Flaaayin was living the best life he knew, and didn't care about his past and
how he came here. He had accepted this new life and loved every bit of it.

Chapter 5

The Death of Magic by "Magic" (part 1)

"Magic" to the common man is something much more than just what mages cast, it is
basically anything they cannot fully explain or understand. You here it in the
crowds a lot, "That is just magic!" when Flaaayin would make a rabbit disappear
into a hat. But in reality that magic is just slight of hand and dexterous
manipulation of the attention of the audience. When Flaaayin pulls a coin out
from behind someone's ear, it is not through magic that it happens, it is through
years of training and work learning this art.

So Flaaayin will refer to Magic in two ways, and you can definitely see which
way he means by his mannerisms and tone of beak.

Back to the story, Flaaayin's day of final proving was coming up. The day he would
officially be the Jester of Hamsah Mu'tazz, the chosen joker and actor for
the Sultan. This performance would be in front of the Sultan himself, as well as
the Court and all dignitaries of Mutazz. And Flaaayin was prepared for it. He
even officially renamed himself with the Registry of Names with a last name of
"Jester" in preparation for his glorious debut. Strange maybe, but he was that
confident.

On that day, there was obviously others who could try out, but the whole city knew
Flaaayin was the arial for the job, so no one else dared try out. That was true
until the day of the event, where a strange little gnome came and put his stamp
on the official entry papers. He was going to compete against Flaaayin!

Flaaayin and many of the Court were cackling, they knew that Flaaayin would
embarrass this new gnome and he would be laughed (not in a good way) out of the
Court. The gnome simply nodded toward Flaaayin and laughed as he turned to be
the first performer. Each was given the chance to do only one trick and that
would dictate their worth.

The gnome walked up in front of the Sultan, bowed briefly, and begain his show.
The gnome gestured and mumbled some strange words and suddenly smoke billowed
out of his robe. That smoke then manipulated itself into a form of a dragon and
that dragon roared loudly without any work from the gnome. The smokey dragon form's
eyes suddenly flared red and turned its massive head toward the gnome. The
Court giggled with pleasure and aura as the gnome suddenly "cowered" as the
dragon's head turned toward the gnome and opened. Hundreds of smoky teeth were
inside, and the Court could feel the heat of the Dragon's breath. The gnome
panicked and attempted to run from the Court, an act of course, but the smoke
dragon caught up to him and gobbled him up whole! The gnome disappeared in the
mouth of the dragon as if eaten. The smoke dragon chewed with satisfaction and
roared one last time, then disappearing into a whole set of magical fireworks
lighting up the massive Sultan's Court Hall. A final awe from the Court washed
through the Hall and then was silence. The gnome was gone, the dragon was gone
and there was nothing.

Chapter 6

The Death of Magic by "Magic" (part 2)

Then suddenly out from the behind the throne of the Sultan the gnome came walking
out, flicked his nose and bowed. What came next shocked Flaaayin to the core.
The Court roared with approval, where even the Sultan stood and gave a standing
ovation. Flaaayin stood shocked as the gnome walked toward him.

The gnome uttered a strange magical word and held out his hand. A bouquet of
flowers suddenly appeared and he handed them to Flaaayin and muttered,

"You cannot beat my magic you ugly stupid bird."

It was Flaaayin's turn. He steeled himself despite the performance confident
he could out play this gnome. He began to walk toward the spot to perform and
prepare his trick.

As he walked up the Sultan boomed, "You cannot beat that bird, you are just a
overgrown ugly bird that does simple parlor tricks. I don't even want to see
your trick, the gnome has the job."

Flaaayin froze shocked, furious, angry, horrified, and destroyed. Words cannot
describe the feelings, only that his whole world crumbled with those words from
the Sultan. The gnome giggled in delight as Flaaayin was dragged from the Court
humiliated by the Sultan Guards and tossed out the gate. His comfortable life
was undone. All his practice undone. This was truly the Death of Magic by "Magic"!

Chapter 7

Joining the Battleragers and Maw Moments Through Trickery

"No one does this to me!" Flaaayin screamed! "I will kill them all!"

Flaaayin knows nothing of fighting and brawn. He is a trickster, a trapper, a
poisoner. That is all he knows. And so fueled by an hatred so deep it knows no
end, Flaaayin promises to bring about the destruction of the method of which
he lost. It is time his Magic killed "Magic". Flaaayin now seeks to become one
of the Battleragers and learn all the poison skills and trap skills possible and
apply them purely to the killing of mages and "Magic" of all kinds.

And he will not kill with brawn, but endeavor to kill through deception and
trickery. And through each killing bring a maw moment to each and every victim.
One must destroy the mind, the ego, and the faith, to destroy the body and that
is what he will do.

Chapter 8

Discoverying the Lack in Battle - Best Gaping Maw Moment

Flaaayin had believed the villagers to be the greatest warriors
in Thera, but story and rumor and reality seem to be extremely
different things. Do not get Flaaayin wrong, they are great
warriors, but they lack a certain amount of wisdom to their
decisions in war which cost most of them dearly. Foolish choices
that if thought about even for a moment, would scream idiocity.

This discovery has been Flaaayin's biggest Gaping Maw experience
for himself. There is such a lack of using all the tools in the
War tool bin. Failure to use deception. Failure to understand an
enemies' weaknesses before engaging them, frankly failure to
know anything about the enemy before committing to a battle.
Or things as simply as carrying about provisions when you quest
out for battle. They simply starve to death upon the field of
battle and then are easily killed as they cannot move!

Flaaayin has no problems pointing fingers either.

For example, the all powerful Zrakkna. the village seeks to take
the Scepter from the Scions, a good thing. Motivated as he is
he goes running off before any preparation and begins the fight.
Not the smartest thing to do, but the rest of the village
catsh up with him and the battle goes well. No one faces any
opposition so risk taking is not the best idea. Zrakkna
instead presses himself lose to death, flees from the Archmage,
sits for a moment as Flaaayin bandages some of his wounds, then goes
back into the fray half death. Well the Archmage turns him into
full dead very quickly. And there is no gain, no reason, no
anything to be so foolish, yet there it is. The morale of the
village crumbles due to this, and many scatter and give up.
Flaaayin has to drag them back to finish the assault, which
is done and the village finally come back victorious.

Flaaayin laughs at the humor this moment brought him. Flaaayin
will continue to do as he does, killing and fighting in the most
deceptive ways possible. And use his quick mind and wit, mixed
with a host of wisdom, to work his "magic". Will Flaaayin do
something about this? Perhaps or perhaps not. On one hand he
truly enjoys watching bone headed berserkers do something foolish
and be surprised and awe struck that they die quicker than
an elf babe in a warg den.

On the other hand, nah, no other hand. He will enjoy it and
apply his own wisdom to make fun of the berserkers as they
die.

Chapter 9

Trickery, Imp-ery, The "Magic", The Guild

Much time has past since Flaaayin was forceably removed from
any possibility of his comfortable life. Since that time he has
spent much time perfecting his poisoning arts. He has become
quite the expert within the art and has even taken over the
Voralian City Guild as Godfather. A position he does simply
because he can, and well, provides benefits as well. Hamsah
is no longer his home, Voralian City is, and the irony of
A wicked and evil Godfather of a light loving city is not
lost on him, and he enjoys the position greatly.

Furthermore, his dream of becoming the deadliest trickster
in Thera progresses as well. He has not only learned all
there is to know about mixology, he has begun his research
and learning in traps. He is purely dedicated to learning
everything there is about traps before pursuing anything
else. He knows the path will be difficult, but this kind
of trickery is the most enjoyable.

As for the Imp, well, the Imp is the Imp. Flaaayin spent
some time talking to Balta, the Voice of the Gaping Maw. This
conversation was interesting enough and out of it he has
learned that Balta comes across as a simpleton, but is most
likely part of his ploy. I'm not suckered into it, but
sometimes you play along to see your time to spring your
own moment on the moment springer. This has been some of
the most interesting conversations yet in his life.

Will the Imp find him or shall Flaaayin try to find the Imp?

Great question. Flaaayin will consider it.

As for life up to this point, Flaaayin has enjoyed it. He
has much to accomplish and has already done a good amount
he wanted to. So he continues on the path of killing Magic
with his own "Magic".

Chapter 10

The Drawing of Age, the "Magic", the Hatred

"I don't find what you do funny, at all." says Kharten, the power magi
of the Chasm, right after he was slain through trickery, forgetfulness,
and neurological poisons and traps. This statement seems to sum up
how everyone views Flaaayin these days. Venom piled with venom, with
a bucket of venom on top of it. Deception, trickery, and jestering
is seen not as a way to fight, but a way of cowards, yet I have been
extremely effective in my ability to kill our enemies, and disrupt
their hope. Of all things, I can keep a much greater force from
attempting to raid the village, only by my presence and my infamous
reputation. I manipulate and control without lifting a feather, such
is how I am thought of.

And what comes from the ability to control, deceive, and make ineffective?
Hate, lots of hate. Anyone I speak to who is not a villager I find myself
faced with this hate. It is veiled or seething and expressed. It causes
them to act chaotic in fashion and I exploit such. Even those I have not
ever faced in person hate me. I do believe I see a reoccuring theme.
But this will not change who I am, nor what I do, or how I do it. There
may be a way out of this hatred, but I don't see it. And I will continue
to bathe in it and wash my feathers within it. It is strangely warm
and enjoyable to be seen as this. And such I continue my path.

But on to aging. My wings are tattered, my colors muted by time
but I have gained wisdom in exchange. It has made me a more dasterly
bird and for that, I thank Time. I continue in my old age to find
this infamous and talked about Imp. Balta speaks of him and of
conversations that have been hade about me, but nothing as of yet.
I believe my actions and the wake I leave behind me of dumbfounded faces
and furious souls is proof of my abilities, but it is perhaps just about
the hatred. Perhaps that has become too common and expected, so I will
endeavor to find a soft place in my heart (a fake one of course) to
endear myself, before twisting the knife.

Perhaps this is the last part of the Wisdom I seek. But do know, I
will never give up my "Magic" nor punishing those who use the Magic.
My own hatred runs deep, like a vein of gold at the center of the
mountain. The only way to get it out is to destroy the whole mountain
and everything around it. Something I do not think anyone would wish to
do, because when that would happen, I would bring everything with me.

Hell be wary of when I come.

The Ugly Duckling?

A speckled green and red arial egg sits here in a nest. Around it are
brillantly white eggs, three of them to be exact. Standing over the nest
are two brillantly white plummaged arials. You realize they are the parents
to these eggs, but they look obviously perplexed.

The male one suddenly squwaks, "What happened here dear, what happened?!"
The female mutters, "I do not know. Why is one egg so ugly and the rest so
beautiful?".

The male one looks at the female one stand burps, "You not sleep around
did you? I bet it that stupid city guard you keep eyeing!"

The female one recoils from the nest, "No no no! You are the only one. This
must be what they say is the "Ugly Duckling" syndrome."

The male threatens the female with the clawed hands then stops, "Hmm, maybe
maybe indeed. But if I find out you have been beaking with other males I
will have no problems plucking all your feathers and throwing you from this
city."

"No dear, never. I would never do that. All these eggs are yours, I swear!"

The male rumbles and scampers off then takes flight into the clouds from
the rocky outcropping they were standing. The female is visibly relieved.
She whispers, "I had no idea this could happen. I was just having bird
sex like all the other birds. I didn't think I could be fertilized by two
males!"

She looks to the left and right, and seeing no one scoops up the ugly speckled
egg. "I must get rid of it!" she gobbles and takes flight in the opposite
direction of her mate, and flies to the southeast.
