Beginning

When I was a child, my life was very strict. I had a routine, and parents who
enforced that routine. They said that it would help to make me a better person,
help me achieve something in life.

They were right, in so far as they went. how I could achieve more with some
discipline.

I am sure that my father's beatings and my mother's constant shouting
helped keep me focused, as well. I still bear the marks from my childhood,
and I certainly see the value of their teachings.

Without structure and order, life is not possible.

This does not mean we cannot push the boundaries of what that order allows.
There can be great advantage gained by someone who knows the rules and plays within
them, who learns the tricks and such that allows him to prosper.

Perhaps not the lesson my father wanted to teach me, but it is the one
I learned.
