Skezok Felblade the Legend of the Battlefield

Description

This walking armory is most likely a well muscled duergar
beneath the fortress of thick well used armor he wears.
His whole body is well protected except for where his heart
should be is the mark of the Prince of Darkness himself.
The armor around it seems melted to reveal the mark which burns
and oozes like a bleeding coal upon his flesh. His whole body seems
to be bathed in shadows that seem to almost crawl about him.
His armors are etched with arcane runes and a strange diabolic
language. Piercing eyes of a veteran stare out with a haunted
look, as if they saw something so horrible it was forever
etched into their soul. A short greasy beard flecked with grey is
adorned with bones and teeth of various kinds. He moves with
a military precision and confidently glares ahead.

Chapter 5

Vanguard of the Eternal Night

It wasn't long before the respite from nightmares of the gypsy were replaced
with something much worse, the will of the Dark One. He did not even need to
be asleep to have these waking nightmares. Usually the command was more souls
for his dark majesty, but the latest was clear, unleash the Eternal Night.
Skezok had no longer needed the Scions as he once thought he did, and had
actually tired of Charine's endless collection of tasks and hemming and
hawing about his place in the Chasm. Oddly it was Skezok's slaying of the War
Master Zubei that finally gained him entrance to the Chasm's secrets. Not
unlocking Kteng's ancient formula, his being the blade to slay the dark god
Yzekon, or traversing the darkness of the Inferno and being marked the Dark
One's chosen even when she was too weak to make it herself. Skezok had known
her disdain for those not naturally gifted with magic, but when after decades
she made him one of the Night's Vanguard she had not even had the respect to
be present.


He thought about choking the life out of her eyes with his flail,
but feared the Dark One's rage. Already many of his other chosen had
displeased him and had been turned inside out, or the weaker willed had taken
their own lives foolishly thinking it would save them from his eternal
torment. Besides he enjoyed the new found magic granted by the Scepter, it
brought his hunger to a new level while sating it just enough. Also there
were more magic to be had, even though the magi and priests secretly guarded
it, he knew it could be had eventually, with steel and blood, so much more
blood.

Chapter 4

Chosen of the Prince of Darkness

As hideous as he once was beautiful to behold, the Prince of Darkness rose
from the depths of Cocytus, a beast of immense size visible only from
the waist up. Clouds of swirling frost spread before him like a rushing
tide, swept on by his vast bat-like wings. Skezok's heart sunk in the
presence of the Lord of the Pit, and whatever vile efforts brought him to
this point were nothing in comparison to his infernal glory. Overcome with
despair and hopelessness he longed only for him to command him or consume
him, whatever his will should be. When he gazed upon that infernal glory that
was all he knew, and the Dark One's words were like a whitesteel spike being
driven through his skull. Each word verging on shattering his mind.

The Prince of Darkness told him 'You have performed the condemning acts
needed to stand before me, proving that you the potential of becoming a
favored servant of mine. To empower your Spirit you shall bear the mark of
the Prince of Darkness. Go into the World and proclaim my power to mortal
minds. In this you have my blessing.'

Then with a massive talon the Dark One tore his infernal mark into Skezok's
flesh that would forever damn his soul, but also promise him a place at the
Dark One's side. Thus ending his fear of the now pathetic threats of the
Gypsy. Skezok need fear nothing ever again, or so he foolishly thought...

Chapter 3

The Craving

It had been long since Skezok had slain th gypsy and taken her gem, long had he watched over
his shoulder. He had sought the Scions of Eternal night for protection, hoping their dark
powers and alliance with the Nightwalkers would be enough. He had begun to rely on
whatever magic he could find as well to keep him safe. Constantly guzzling down any potion
or flask of magic brew that would enhance his formidable fighting skills. He had already found the
Lab of Kteng the ancient crone already when Charine the Chancellor of the night finally
granted him her audience. Even though he had aided the Scions against their many enemies,
Charine wanted yet more. She tasked him with gathering the secrets of the Laboratory and the
ruins of Veran. His hunger for magic already a constant craving for him, he took to
the tasks with gusto. He solved the riddle of Ktengs Laboratory and drank deeply
from his prize, a flask imbuing his body with even greater fortitude. But something
else changed as well, his hunger for magic suddenly became insatiable. It was a
full blown addiction to magic. He needed it's constant power surging through his veins in anyway
he could grasp it, if not he would become desperate for it, insane with craving.

Chapter 2

Gypsy Killer

In the dead of night, the power of his greed outweighed the depth of his
superstitions and he killed the old hag, taking her treasure as her own. With
her dying words she cursed him, telling him the gem would steal his soul, and
deliver it to her in Hell. That forever would he be hunted, and when he
finally succumbed he would be hers in Hell to torment forever. While Skezok
normally slept like a babe even after the most horrific murder, he was for
the first time in his life afflicted with horrible nightmares of the Gypsy
mystic. The first of many that would haunt him for the rest of his days. He
awoke to the sounds of the ship's mast being splintered by lightning. A storm
had arisen suddenly, and in its ferocity it sunk the ship, killing all hands
on deck, except Skezok. He was cast overboard with the rest, but blacked out,
awaking on the docks of Hamsah Mu'tazz. The gem gone from his neck, and
replaced with deep gouges that looked as if it had been torn from his neck by
claws.

Skezok's fear of the gypsy grew with each passing day of bad luck, and each
passing night of dreamed terrors. In his desperation he knew there was only
one thing to do, he must find a magic darker and more powerful then hers to
protect him.

Chapter 1

From the Under Dark to the Ever Gloomy

Born in a small village deep in the Underdark, so poor that the villagers had
one gold coin that they would all take turns stealing from one another. While
most times this would only result in some minor injuries, occasionally
missing fingers or toes, Skezok took it to a new level. Greedy even for a
duergar, Skezok began to murder his fellow villagers. He was smart enough
though to blame others, or hide behind his bigger tougher elder siblings.
Until one day even his own unscrupulous family had enough of his greed and
double dealing and sent him packing.

Charmed by tales of the riches that awaited on the surface, he made his way
there. Unfortunately for him, he came to the surface in Barovia. A poor hovel
of a town, surrounded by danger on all sides. Amusingly enough Skezok had
thought he had hit it big when he arrived there. The Barovians suspicious of
everyone, especially strangers, did not take kindly to him, especially after
a rich merchant went missing upon his arrival. He found he needed to find a
place in their society rather quickly, and so joined a ragtag group of
mercenaries that would guard merchants traveling through the area. While he
had some basic skills with a blade, an old veteran of the group gave him his
first real lessons with a sword. He took to it like a fish to water, and soon
became the best of the bunch.

After a year or so, of aiding merchants, who sometimes would disappear in the
night along with their gold inexplicably. Skezok and his mercenary band took
on a job that would alter the course of his history forever. A group of
gypsies hired them to help escort one of their elders all the way to Hamsah
Mu'tazz. This fortune teller and mystic was an ancient crone, powerful in her
craft. Skezok had become quite superstitious during his time with in Barovia
which naturally or unnaturally lent itself to such. He was intrigued by the
fortune teller, and acted as her personal guard. Unfortunately for her,
Skezok soon noticed her prize possession, a massive ruby she kept around her
neck.
