Kal'dessi's Curse

"Come. Sit by me."

The young cloud giant slowly glided over to the huge cloud giant ranger who
was reclining underneath the brances of a redwood tree.

"Sit," the ranger said.

The young giant sat.

The master ranger sighed. "The forests of Kal'dessi are ancient, young one.
Can you feel it? The trees are beginning to groan, and no more young trees
are sprouting. It is as if there is a curse that hovers over this land. yet
we do not know the reason. Even the criminals and bandits have fled this
area, so dark has it become."

Glancing down at the ground, the ranger placed his hand over a patch of dead
grass and uttered an incantation of magic. Slowly, the grass began to grow
greener and straighter, eventually returning to a healthy state. The ranger
wiped sweat from his brow, a look of disgruntled pain on his face.

"It is even hard to help things grow. The force I exerted was equivalent to
raising a tree, when I was young."
He glanced down at the silent giant child, and then looked at the pale blue
sky.

"These forests are no more. We are no more. You are a rare one, for we have
had no children besides you in four centuries. The rangers of Kal'dessi are
no more. The forests of Kal'dessi are dying. Our work as protectors of this
forest, of executioners and hunters of criminals, is completed, though it is
questionable whether or not it is the work of our own hands or the barranness
and curse of this forest. Your task, then, is to go south, south, and far
east to the forests near a city named Galadon. There you will find rangers of
our profession, who have a guild. Learn from them, and grow in
strength."
