Chapter 3

Life goes forward

Many things have happened in Woldrun's life. Much continues as it always has,
applicants, enemies, allies, victories and defeats.

One notable victory is the freeing of Lord Thror Hammersong from an age-long imprisonment by an
Ancient Wyrm and a powerful ArchMagus. Many battles were fought to free him, and he
still bears some bitter resentment toward the Village as a whole for "forgetting" him. But he
managed a gruff gratitude. The important thing is his freedom.

Upon hearing the part that Woldrun played in freeing Lord Thror, his father did something
that Woldrun had never seen before. He broke down and wept. And hugged his son for the
first time since Woldrun had been old enough to hold a sword.

"Am very proud of you, my son."

The words were a crack in the dam that holds back Woldrun's emotions and he, too,
began to weep softly. He had never realized how much his father's approval meant to him.

Until now.

Composing himself, wiping his tears, and hugging his family gruffly with much-too-hard
back-slapping, Woldrun hefted his weapons and returned to the Village. There was still
more mage blood to spill.
