Chapter 3

What have we gotten ourselves into...

Ever since first joining the Seekers of Balance Iltch has been ill at ease
with his companions. In theory he is to put his life in their hands on
occasion, and protect them as he would brothers or sisters, and hope to
receive the same treatment. In practice, he realized that a number of those
he shares the island with are completely moronic in every aspect of their
lives. Being brought up in Talshidar society as an outcast may have helped
him avoid the inherent evil associated with the race, but it certainly shaped
the way he deals with others. Bitter and spiteful at those he sees as less
than himself, those who do stupid things repeatedly and don't learn from
their mistakes. He is easily frustrated and has said numerous things to
others of the Island that might seem uncouthe, and actually, three separate
mages have declared him 'dead in their eyes.' Luckily enough his training at
the hands of the Talshidar involved being a solo scout the majority of the
time, so he is fine with this.

Iltch had a brief conversation with Twist in which it was mentioned that yes
a mage that was burned out could have magic resewn into him. After asking
how he could please Twist he was told make the veil stronger. After asking
if the veil being balanced was strong enough, he was told no, that the
stronger it was the better, and magic could never be too strong. So Iltch
hopes his efforts and scouting and tying up villagers for the good of magic
are being noticed though he rarely sees Twist.

Iltch is now number two in donations of the Hamsah Thieves guild behind the
Immortal Imam. He has been praying to the thief god Qaledus though he has
heard from some that the God is gone from the realms, and from others that he
is recently returned. Either way, he doesn't want to see in the Imperial
control of Chirikaw, who has actually attacked him in the past and ignored
the thief code guild members live by. Either way, he hopes to further the
guild and make it richer to advance his network of spies and scouts and
become Bandit King of Hamsah Mu'tazz.
