Description

A feeling of unease overwhelms you as all becomes silent, shadows materialize
suddenly and disappear just as quickly. Blinking and shaking off the notion
as ludicrous a slight shiver erupts down your spine as crimson eyes appear in
the shadow. The shape you look upon resembles that of the most ghastly
apparitions, as it hovers ominously before you. The stench of death lingers
on this form, his cloak black as night prevents you from discerning much more
than the build of this figure, standing approximately five feet in height you
can only assume his race. There is almost a palpable aura of confidence in
this mans dauntless stance, his every movement seems calculated and
methodical his muscles tightening in cue. The hood slowly retracts from his
face revealing a comely duergar, his head cocked sideways, a sinister look of
pure ecstasy upon his face.

Chapter 1

The Prophet of Despair.

Dezmonthal Ergo'Zarindar the Heartless Wanderer was born into a world full of
hatred. He sought to build a vast Empire spanning all across Thera, creating
a utopian society following an absolute Emperor, but it was a quest in vain.
He sought to become the Hand of the Emperor, the spider in the shadows sowing
a web to keep those who would try to destroy his dream, but it was again in
vain. Falling from the graces of the Empire he left his position of power to
become an exile, hopelessly wandering Thera without a cause. It was then a
voice spoke to him, to break the chains that bound him and embrace his fear,
a wasted life is not a life worth living but all that was left to him was
bitter despair.

Despair as an ideal is the loss of hope, to be completely overcome by a sense
of futility or defeat. It is this ideal that now drives Dezmonthal, it is his
despair that he invokes within and upon those who once chained him. He has
proclaimed himself a prophet of Despair, bringing forth its hopelessness upon
those whose light shines within. His only driving force now is to decay hope,
and bring upon the world the despair he feels within.

Chapter 2

Embrace One's Fear.

Emptiness and nothingness is feared beyond all, a life without purpose. It is
that fear that must be embraced and harnessed, driving oneself to a cause
greater than himself. Dezmonthal's despair and pain are all that is left to
him, and onto others he shall bear it. Welcoming pain and fear allowing it to
consume his entire being he has broken from the cage that bound him.

Chapter 3

The Voice within the Flames.

Dezmonthal looks back at his time in the Empire as the years wasted. Lying,
deceiving, and murdering to gain the status of Shadow Lord and to what avail.
So that he could give his life to a fruitless cause, a lost cause. He was
given the choice of Shadow Lord or Anathema he choose the latter, his life
and soul were still the Empires but his heart was no longer there.

Deep within the confines of Dezmonthal's mind a Voice of Flames spoke to him,
asking him if he was free from his cage. Still fresh from his falling from
grace, Dezmonthal felt his life still belonged to the Empire. Everything he
had built and worked to expand, yet why still did he give his soul to a cause
lost to him. It was time to sever the ties, return the blood lost to him, and
free himself from the cage of the Empire.

Chapter 4

The Hand of the Emperor, Spider in the Shadows.

"What the Emperor dreams the Hand delivers." Dezomonthal Ergo'Zarindar as his
father before him and his father's father before him has served the king of
their lands. Each has delivered souls to the forge, death upon the foes that
thwart the expansion of their Empires. Each Hand is unique, each serves the
Kingdom in their own way, Dezmonthal has built himself into a great spider
each strand of his web extending into enemies and allies alike. Should
something of importance loom on the horizon, Dezmonthal will prides himself
to know, when, what, where, and how it is planned to be done and how his
shadows might profit from it. It is the spider that sulks in the shadows
awaiting his foes to become entangled in his web so that he may wrap them up
and keep them for later use.

Paranoia has begun to haunt Dezmonthal, both in his dreams and thoughts
alike. The path to the Shadow Lord was not one without deceit, murder, and
sabotage none know this better than he. Each shadow that grows in strength
is both an ally and threat to Dezmonthal's status within the Imperial ranks.

Chapter 5

Imperial Shadow.

My heart, my soul, my life for the Empire. These are the words that every
imperial recites, and it is this ideal that Dezmonthal Ergo'Zarindar expels
with his every breath. It has come to his attention that the Imperial Shadows
are much more than simple thugs, much like the Imperial Blades, they are the
eyes and the ears of the Empire. Knowing what is happening in and around the
Empire is the supreme power of the Imperial Shadow.

Under deity decree blades were to strike down any Tribunal wavering from the
protected cities of Thera, it was during this Blade-Tribunal war, Dezomonthal
recruited the Justiciar of Thera, Thmauddhot, to inform him of everything
that transpired within the Spire. After garnering the information on the
Spires stance he would whisper of what transpired within the Palace, for a
price, forging a very strong alliance in the war to come. The Shadows and the
Palace would be protected from the Tribunal even aided should it be needed,
but the blades were to be assassinated without remorse, which pleased
Dezmonthal. As the war continued, a new Emperor rose in the ranks of the
Palace.

Now was the time to act upon the position of Shadow Lord and Dezmonthal began
recruiting supporters. He had the Spire sealed, yet he was in need of the
thugs word of confidence, the Imperial Blades. He came across a choice piece
of information which was very important to the Betrayer Blade, Arkhan, in
this Dezomonthal gained yet another vote for the position he coveted so
dearly.

Chapter 6

Dezmonthal Ergo'Zarindar.

Dezmonthal Ergo'Zarindar is a creature of unwavering conviction, a mortal
with no morals, no regret, fueled by the very fires of hell. Perhaps it was
the myriad bodies burned alive, the tongues and eyes stripped from living
men, or the unanswered cries of agony that sent Dezomonthal to the surface.
Or perhaps it is the visions assailing his sleep that drives him to torture,
murder, and torment. Whatever force that drives Dezmonthal to destroy both
beautiful and repulsive alike, unbiased in his quest for death, is stronger
than any sword or word. His path led him to the guild of the desert thieves
for only when a victim is feeble, helpless, and his every thought is clouded
with the fear of death can his soul be reached, to be forged and molded.

Ergo, the first Hand of the King, was Dezmonthal's father. It is said what
the King wills the Hand Delivers, in most cases it was death Ergo delivered.
The screams and cries of agony the tortured bellowed still linger within the
recesses of Dezmonthal's mind. Yet, these are not painful memories but almost
satisfying, and unto others these memories must be placed.
