Description

The woman before you could easily pass for a young elven maiden, if you
only looked at the shape of her body. But as your eyes reach her face,
you cannot help but flinch at the scars that mar it. The scarred girl stands
just under six feet tall, but despite the scarring she carries herself as if
she didn't have a care in the world. Her bright red eyes matches her skin
as well as her posture, transmitting a mixed message of happiness and
viciousness. A number of reddish dots decorate her face, but inbetween
the scares it is difficult to discern if they are freckles or something far
less desirable. Her auburn hair is cut short on top of her head, while the
longer neckhair is gathered into hundreds of tiny braids that are gathered
by a leather band.

Rebirth, farang (in case youre wondering): You are lounging on a magnificent
balcony open to the starry sky, divine music is playing with such exquisite
perfection you can hardly stand it, when all of a sudden something terrible
occurs: the magical sounds break up into an obscene cacaphony. What is
happening? Are you dying? You could put it that way. That awful noise is the
first scream of an infant: you. You have been born into a human body
hardwired with every transgression from the last time around and now you must
spend the next seventy years clawing your way back to the music. No wonder we
cry.

Note: Farang is Isaan slang, referring to outside travellers, usually
merchants stopping for the sex trade.

Chanya the Bad Girl

She grew up as a girl in Isaan, one of the poorest regions of the poorest
part of Thera, with five sisters and one brother. Her mother was blind from
cataracts, her fathers health was broke from crop farming under the searing
sun for twelve hours a day, her sisters were all mothers of infants from
drunken farmers who neither could nor wanted to support them. Neither of her
sisters were likely to succeed as a whore in Isikiert town for aesthetic
reasons. Her only brother was mentally retarded and required constant
supervision. As the cutest of the brood she was nominated unanimously as the
one to solve the familys financial problems in Isikiert town.


Killing customers just isnt good for business. Papa Nongs tone reflects
the disappointment we all feel when a star employee starts to go wrong. Is
there nothing to be done? Is there no way we can keep our dear Chanya? The
question can onlybe decided by Papa Nong, who owns most of the whore houses
in Isikiert town and who just arrived with his bodyguards. No, the mamasan
agrees. Like Papa Song, her eyes cannot stop flickering across the room to
the tool where Chanyas flimsy silver dress (just enough silk to cover
nipples and butt) drapes and drips. Well, the dripping was slight and is more
or less finished (a rusty stain on the floor turning black as it dries), but
neither of them has ever seen a garment so blood-soaked before. Chanyas silk
bra and panties her only other garments - are also hideously splattered,
they lie abandoned halfway up the stairs to the room where, eccentrically
even for an Isaan whore, she has taken refuge with an opium pipe.
She didnt say anything at all? Like why?
No, I td you. She dashed through the door in a bit of a state holding an

and disappeared upstairs. Fortunately, there were only a couple of farang in

play the whole thing down, of course, and by the time I got to her room she
was already halfway to catching the dragon.

She was totally delirious. When she started talking to the Lyristeon statue,
I left to send for you. At that stage I didnt know if shed really killed
him or if she was just drunk on corn whiskey. But shed snuffed him all
right. I walked to the farangs room in the Green Dragon Inn, and there he
was. A big muscular naked farang in his early twenties, minus a penis and a
lot of blood from a huge knife wound that began in his lower gut and finished
just short of his rib cage. Chanya is one of our more decent and generally
tidy girls, she had inserted a single rose into his severed penis, and placed
them in a ceramic mug of water on the bedside table.

Where the hell did she get the opium, Papa Nong wanted to know. There
hasnt been opium in Isaan since I was a kid. He was thinking fondly about
those days, when merchants from the south brought small balls of opium (one
of them was Chanyas almost anonymous father). An opiated man is more or less
impotnt which reduces much of the wear and tear on the girls and not much
inclined to argue about fee structure. Papa Nong snapped out of his

The Sulfur Temple

The Sulfur Temple used to be the asylum in Isaan, where all mentally depraved
was sent to spend the rest of their lifes. Thirty years ago, a man named
Zinna took over, an eccentric man with an interest in herbs, an obsession
with the Isaani culture (even though he was from the Arkham contintent
himself) and more than a few sadistic streaks. Before long, he began calling
himself General Zinna, and started training his asylum patients to kill
each other. The few who survived, became murderers independent murderers
who killed everyone and everybody that threatened the Isaani culture. Even
though many in Isaan did not approve, they were silent out of fear, and they
kept sending their mental patients to Zinna - after all, they didn't quite
know what was going on there. It can't be so bad, right?

The whitecloaks isnt merely killing the goose that lays the golden egg, it
is ruining the only wealth-distribution system we have in this feudal
society. They hasveno common sense at all. Do they seriously think well get
rich by becoming sterile and civilized? Ive been to Galadon, Hamsah,
Voralian City those places are museums populated by ghosts. The bottom line
is that for more than three centuries the people of Isaan have been kept
alive by what little money their daughters in Isikiert town have been able to
send home. There is barely a farm, road, water wheel, corn field or even a
critter that doesnt owe its existence to our working girls. These corageous
young women are the very essence of the female genius for sustaining,
nurturing, honouring life with life. They are also everything that is great
about the Isaan soul, with their selfless devotion and sacrifice. They ask
for no help or gratitude, they dont expect admiration, they gave up looking
for respect centuries ago, but they are the heart of our culture. General
