Chapter 4

The Offer of Immortality

On the day before the day it happened, Thrugald was completely content to
swim in the depths of the ocean his family lived in.

On the day before the day it happened, Thrugald had no plans to ever leave
his home.

But on the day it happened, he came home from harvesting kelp to find his
father distraught and a strange, glowing woman beside him.

"Harummm," he said to himself as he often did when pausing to think or
surprised. His father still would not speak and the woman turned to him.
She explained that his mother had died saving her, and that she had no way to
pay his family back.

"Garumm." Well, almost no way.She could offer him an immortal life, below
the gods but to live forever if he wished it. Her pale skin shone and the
icey blue robes swirled around her as she left, saying she must give Thrugald
time to think.

"You cannot do this!" his father warned him, fear washing over his previously
gentle face.

So, on the day after the day it happened, Thrugald left to go see what the
world offered above the waves.
