2988, A Merry Morian Holiday
Posted by Morius on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
A unique CF event for Christmas..... The evil lord Morius is giving out either presents or coal to anyone who wishes to take part. You flip a coin that has the Sun on one side, and the Moon on the other.

If the sun shows, you get a present that gives you an edge over others.
If the moon shows, the coal you receive will leave you flawed.

This event took place last year, and people seemed to enjoy it. But know the risk... You may end up with a flaw, for life, and it may not be kind. It is all left entirely to chance.

You can see a summary of last year's event below

If you hope to receive a delightful gift from me, then visit the Inn of the Eternal Star sometime tomorrow, Saturday, 12-26-2020, while I am visible, and let us celebrate the spirit of charity and giving that I hold so dearly within my heart.

And if you plan to attempt to abuse my good graces by changing between characters to repetitively attempt it... You will be sorely mistaken.

To see last year's summary, see Ishuli's post at http://forums.carrionfields.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=25&topic_id=2961&mesg_id=2962&page=

This year thirty three off you hungry souls came to receive a gift, and each were given one. Unlike last year, far more of you received presents rather than coal this time.

Just like before, each participant flipped a coin. If 'heads', then you received a random edge from your class list. If 'tails', a random flaw from the flaw list.

Of the 33 recipients...
22 received edges
11 received flaws

Also unlike last year, at least two people deleted as a result of what they got. Tragic, as last year there were none.

I hope all who joined in enjoyed themselves, but I am sad to say this is likely the last time I will run this event. While the first year went absolutely delightfully, this time there were a number of difference.

1 - People deleted this time, sometimes immediately, unlike the first year.
2 - A large number of people tried to game the event by coming multiple times with alts.
3 - A number of people ranked up characters using double-xp JUST to do this today.
4 - A number of people used throwaway alts rather than their main characters for this.
5 - A number of characters were all particularly low level, thus easily deletable in case of a flaw.

The first year had an amazing number of dedicated participants who brought serious characters to the table and took a real risk. This time as the event went on, I noticed more and more people bypassing the spirit of this whole risky situation. And so what was meant to be charitable instead encouraged throwaway alts, deletions, and rapid ranking just today to try and rush the event with a new character... When my sweet and giving heart intended none of the above.

For those reasons, I will try and think of something more fitting for another holiday instead. For those who did take part though, I do hope you enjoy your gifts.

Thanks for holding the event and using the time!

Perhaps a bit more gating for the rewards themselves is wanted. Like 25 hours on char combined with at least level 25 or something.

I am presuming that most flaws would fit nicely into a role for a longer-lived char, unless very crippling like mute on a tale-teller of the Inn. For a short-lived char and with all the easy ways of levelling these days, the incentive to keep a flaw is somewhat less.

Thank you for taking the time to do this with the playerbase.

I think a lot of people appreciate it.

Most of those problems are fixable with a timestamp on level requirement, hour requirement, and worse punishment for flagrant alt attempts.

For the deletions, I was thinking maybe you make them keep the flaw but let them roll the dice again once if in YOUR opinion is is game ruining.

Or just keep everything as is :)
