A horrific scar jaggedly crosses one of his eyes - instead of shying away from the tragedy, he displays the scar proudly like a mantle. The stone colored pupil on working eye twinkles with mirth and exhiliration, metamorphosing his raging expression into an abundance of energy and insanity. Bushels of fiery red hair, nearly completely stained charcoal black by the soot oozing from what appears to be his pores, sprout wildly across his face in a chaotic array, making his beard and mustache indistinguishable from the pandemonious decoration, which some believe to be the hair coming from his scalp. Given his wild expression, the resemblance to a volcano on the brink of explosion is uncanny. His malformed face, barely peeking through wildfire covering his skin, shows signs of burned mark and rough callouses that have long since healed improperly. Entwining his large stone-like arms are various tattoos and runic symbols of the trade of his craft. The tattoos along his arm give the illusion of writhing constantly, telling a story of a birth, a love of the forge, and... they continue along his back and towards the center of his chest, where a large symbol is branded precisely in the center with the name 'DHRUMMIN,' a tribute to his proud heritage. The tan-line of years of forgecrafting appears to have faded slightly. However, his smithing belt remains, whereupon various hammers and tongs are strewn, carefully packaged by heat-resistant leather. A particularly large hammer, crafted by an unique infusion of iron and stone, dangles lightly along his right hip. Engraved on the shaft are various dwarven scriptures. As they approach the head of the Hammer, wherein the word 'DHRUMMIN', a mirror copy of the carving on his chest, is inscribed, slightly below the stained blood, is the name 'Ghrummin'. Ghrummin, a male dwarf, is in perfect health.

Behind the earthen barricade stand the gates -- heavy, massive, fortified iron gates that require much muscle-power to move -- and beyond them you can see the faces of numerous huts, most looking as rugged as the hills before you. In the distance, people move about within the secluded village, and smoke drifts up from various campfires and cookstoves. The gruff sound of barbaric voices drifts to you on the wind, as does the occasional burst of laughter and clang of metal.

Locks of brown hair fall just past his face, giving him the rugged appearance of one that has seen few days of absent warfare. He stares at you with deep set eyes, searching you for anything arcane. The giant wears a small patch of loincloth about his waist and his body is covered in battle scars, giving you the impression that he has proved his prowess many times over. There is no vegetation here, nor any need for careful steps, as the ground is solid rock; the better to hold the massive pillar that stands before you. There is a strange absence of sound as this awesome sight rises from the earth before you, and a feeling of reverence and awe in the way folks treat it as they pass. To the north, sparse vegetation grows thicker as the ground slopes toward a vale. To the south a small path of cluttered stones mark the way to Grime's forge. Dark patches of earth lead away from the inner portion of the village to the east, and to the west is a large clearing containing a number of barbarians. Here at the pillar, though, there is a feeling of company, as though all those who died in the war against magic were present with you.

The shadow of this pillar falls atop the thatched huts, a silent reminder of the dead etched upon the face of this massive stone. Shaped in a cylinder fashion, this pillar is flat at the peak and round about the sides. The white granite seems to be exotic, a rare stone, unscathed by the elements and smooth like the surface of glass. The soft rays of the sun glint off the surface of this pillar, strangely illuminating it through the evening hours. Upon closer inspection you see deeply etched markings across the stone.

Gently swaying lanterns hang from iron hooks driven into the supporting beams of the roof, flooding the table with bright light while leaving the corners in shadows. A large plaque of polished steel has been affixed to the north wall, above a wide fireplace. A giant tapestry depicts combat forms and hangs upon the eastern wall while a blood-red curtain rests along the western wall depicting an ancient battle. Almost hidden in the shadows of the southeast corner is a large book resting open upon a stand, and a large sheet of parchment lies sprawled atop a short table to the southwest.

The level of detail is exquisite, the sweat and blood of the combatants seeming to bead and flow as the tapestry stirs, the rising and falling of sword, axe and mace moving slowly in the grip of the past. Some see the smaller group prevailing against the larger; others see the larger crushing the smaller. In either case, it is obvious that this tapestry deals with warfare on a greater scale than individual combat. One group is defending their home from assault, the other invading said home, although in the chaos of battle, you cannot tell which group is which. Words arc across the top of the tapestry that deal with this situation.
I: When ten to the enemy's one, surround him and destroy him utterly.
II: When five times his strength, gather your forces and attack.
III: If double in his strength, divide your forces and attack from opposite sides.
IV: If equally matched, launch an offensive first to initiate the victory.
V: If weaker numerically, be capable of withdrawing, prepare for defense and avoid confrontation.
VI: And if in all respects unequal, be capable of eluding him and waiting for your moment.

I: War is a matter of vital importance to the Village; the province of life and death; the road to survival or ruin. It is mandatory that it be thoroughly studied and shared between Villagers
II: The enemies of the village are many and will vary with circumstance. As the village was formed by betrayal so do they war upon the very essence of that betrayal. The true mages of Thera, the conjurors, necromancers, transmuters, shapeshifters, invokers and anti-paladins have the taint so deep within them, that only death will cleanse them of it. Other groups or individuals who war upon the Village and are marked as Hunted by either the Gods or the Commander shall be treated as enemies.
III: Those who are not magi, but who are members of the Scions or Nexus, are to be treated as enemies of the Village, for their enslavement to the magi cannot be forgiven. The Ebony Scepter and the folding platinum key, which is the source of their mana, their power, is to remain in the Skull Throne at all times. If you are unsure as to an individual's allegiance to this group, every effort must be made to verify they carry the taint before you strike at them. When in doubt, show patience, and bide your time until their true nature can be discerned.
IV: Those who dabble in the arts or serve to protect the true magi are misguided in thought and deed, and are to be pitied. Treat them as enemies so long as they stand beside the magi; else leave them be, for they serve only to divide our forces. Should one of these misguided fools actually strike at the Village's guardians, they should be slain for this transgression. As you stand over their still warm corpse, explain to them why you struck, and warn them against making this same mistake again. Pen a missive to the Village informing all BattleRagers who it was that dared commit such foul actions. Those who persist will be marked as Hunted, and treated as enemies. Priests are to be tolerated, but their powers should not be embraced other than at the shrine of your deity.
V: Never should you pursue those who are not our true enemies without the leave of the Gods of Battle. This includes those who hunt you as an individual, for whatever reason or cause they choose to embrace. If pursued by those who so dispute your beliefs, and if you are unable to avoid them, make a stand and defend those beliefs, but do not draw the Village into your personal battles.
VI: The Lords of the Village have fought the mortal war and will continue to aid and guide the Village with their words and deeds. They, as well as all Immortals of the Realm, are to be treated with the utmost respect, and their judgments are to be considered final and abiding. The elders of the Village have been chosen and so named as such by the Lords of Battle. Consider their words and deeds as standards that all Villagers should aspire to, and treat them with the respect that their wisdom and skills demand. You are all skilled warriors, and as such, you are encouraged to voice your concerns or opinions when time and circumstances permit, keeping always in mind the above.
VII: Courage should be implicit in every action you undertake as a Villager. To act less than courageous is to show weakness in yourself, but continual defeat at the hands of our enemies will eat at your resolve, leaving you susceptible to their vile taint, and weaken the morale of those around you. You must constantly strive to walk the fine line between courage and reckless abandon.
VIII: Never forget who has gone before you, and what has transpired in the distant past of the Village. The heritage of the Battlerager is the backbone of our cause. Remember always the betrayal of your ancient brethren and those who have laid down their lives for our one true belief. To forget our past is to forgive our betrayers.
IX: Intelligence, Strength, Wisdom and Courage are four qualities that all Villagers should possess. To have but one or two of these makes you a soldier or a scholar, but to have them all within you is part of what makes you a Villager. Those who truly possess these qualities and remain undaunted by seemingly insurmountable odds will know Victory, and step forward as commanders of war.
X: Be armed and ready for battle at all times, as preparedness is essential for victory. Do not leave for your hut unclothed, for should you return to the realms unready for war, you will only serve to weaken the efforts and morale of those around you.

The Six Commandments of the BattleRagers
1. The gods of Thera and our mortal leader deserve your utmost respect and shall be obeyed at all times.
2. Necromancers, Invokers, Transmuters, Anti-Paladins, Shapeshifters, Conjurers and Masters of the Five Magics pervert and subvert the powers of the gods. They are therefore our enemies, and shall be destroyed.
3. Priests are to be tolerated, for they are empowered by the gods, but they are not gods themselves. Their powers should not be embraced anywhere other than the shrine of your deity.
4. It is forbidden to beseech or manipulate any form of magic other than that expressly mentioned above. To do so is to mock the gods and a blasphemy of your combat prowess.
5. Avoid all that have succumbed to the charms of magic. It is your duty to put any under such a charm out of their misery.
6. Those who repeatedly display a lack of courage when engaged in personal combat, including outnumbering your opponents, are not fit to be a Battlerager. In times of war or great danger to the cabal, however, parity is less important.
