Forum Rules and Etiquette (28th May 2007) Rules:
- All threads on the main boards should pertain to Carrion Fields. Restrict off-topic threads to the appropriate forum, and avoid advertising or denigrating other online games. If you want to mention something (good or bad) about another online game, do not mention them by name.
- All threads should be in English.
- Do not post to attack another poster. If you feel the need to criticize, focus on constructively addressing the ideas and not their author.
- Do not append large attachments such as images to posts. This saves us bandwidth and lets you read our forums more quickly.
- Show respect for the work of our authors. Do not post to discuss quests, exploration areas, shrine locations, the locations of powerful objects (wands, unique items, etc.), abilities which are not commonly known (often the ones that lack helpfiles), and other things that the staff would prefer the players discover through gameplay. If you are not sure, ask first.
- Do not post to discuss current In-Character issues in an Out-Of-Character format. This includes specific active characters (especially speculation on who is playing them), unfolding events, and the like.
- Avoid profanity or obscene material. We use automated filters to screen out some offensive words. Do not misspell or otherwise alter offensive words to try to get them through our filters. Do not use language which is offensive to particular races, ethnic groups, sexual orientations, religions, etc.
- Do not post personal information (phone numbers, addresses, etc.) of any other poster. It is often not advisable to post your own either. The Internet is a large and sometimes scary place.
- These rules are enforced by the judgement of the moderators for each forum. Posts may be edited or deleted at their discretion if they violate these rules. Please respect their decisions. Do not repost deleted material.
- If you suspect a rules problem with another post, contact the moderator(s) of that forum directly. If your problem is with a moderator, email the Implementors (imps@carrionfields.com), and they will resolve the matter. All decisions of the Implementors regarding these forums are final.
Etiquette:
- Post in the most appropriate forum. Examples: If something is broken, use the Bug Forum. If you have a question for one specific immortal, use their personal forum if they have one, or else use Ask An Immortal.
- If the only content of your post fits in the subject line, let browsing reader know that with a (n/t) at the end of your subject. (This stands for No Text.) This way, people do not waste time clicking on an empty post.
- Avoid repetitive posting.
- If you are posting to describe a problem, try to propose a solution in your post. This shows that you have considered the issue more thoroughly, and that the problem has a viable alternative.
- Do not troll. Trolling is posting inflammatory material just to get attention from one or more other posters.
- Do not astroturf. This is creating multiple accounts for the purpose of agreeing with yourself. (An artificial grass-roots movement, if you will.)
- We recognize that Carrion Fields is an internationally played game and that not all posters speak English as their first language. As such, be understanding with issues of grammar, spelling, etc. On the flip side, try to write your posts so they are easy to understand, and use proper punctuation, capitalization, etc. |
